Program Officer – Residential Rehabilitation
Help Create the Environment Where Real Change Happens
Real Work. Real Change.
If you're looking for a role where you:
- Sit behind a desk
- Passively supervise participants
- Simply "check in" and go home
...this probably isn't the role for you.
But if you're looking for meaningful work where every day is different, where you're part of a close-knit team and where you'll genuinely help people rebuild their lives, we'd love to hear from you.
At the Transformation Centre, we believe recovery doesn't happen by sitting in a counselling room alone.
It happens through structure.
Through accountability.
Through routine.
Through meaningful work.
Through positive relationships.
As a Program Officer, you'll help create that environment every single day.
About the Transformation Centre
The Transformation Centre Dooralong is a private residential rehabilitation facility supporting men to overcome addiction, behavioural patterns and life challenges through a structured 10-month residential program.
Our program is:
- Designed by Psychologists
- Delivered by a multidisciplinary team
- Built around responsibility, participation and accountability
- Focused on creating lasting behavioural change
We don't believe people change because someone tells them to.
We believe people change when they're surrounded by consistency, high expectations, meaningful relationships and an environment that supports growth.
Program Officers are at the heart of creating that environment.
This Isn't Your Typical Support Worker Role
Program Officers are responsible for helping run the daily operation of our residential rehabilitation community.
Every shift requires leadership, practical problem solving, operational thinking and the ability to build respectful relationships whilst maintaining clear boundaries.
You'll work alongside participants—not simply supervising them—but helping them develop the routines, accountability and life skills that support lasting change.
Some days you'll be preparing accommodation for new arrivals.
Other days you'll be leading community work projects, supporting participants through difficult moments, maintaining the property or helping ensure the Centre operates smoothly.
No two shifts are ever exactly the same.
Why Participants Do Real Work
At the Transformation Centre, we believe recovery isn't passive.
Participants contribute to the daily running of the Centre because responsibility, routine and meaningful work are powerful tools for lasting behavioural change.
Preparing meals.
Maintaining accommodation.
Looking after the property.
Working together as a community.
These aren't simply chores.
They're opportunities to build discipline, confidence, teamwork, pride and personal responsibility.
As a Program Officer, you'll work alongside participants helping them develop these habits every day.
More Than Support Work
Program Officers spend more time with participants than anyone else.
Because of this, you'll often be the first to notice changes in behaviour, motivation, wellbeing or engagement.
You won't provide counselling.
But you'll play a vital role in each participant's recovery by communicating observations to our Case Workers and Leadership Team,
helping ensure participants receive the right support at the right time.
Every conversation matters.
Every interaction matters.
Every shift matters.
Leadership Without the Title
You don't need a management title to lead.
As a Program Officer you'll:
- Lead by example every day.
- Model the behaviours we expect from participants.
- Build trust whilst maintaining professional boundaries.
- Help create a culture built on accountability, respect and consistency.
- Support your teammates and contribute positively to the team.
Participants watch what we do far more than what we say.
Your leadership matters.
What You'll Be Doing
Working alongside participants, you'll help maintain the daily rhythm and operation of our Centre by:
- Leading structured community work activities
- Supporting meal preparation and kitchen operations
- Preparing rooms and cabins for participant arrivals and progression through the program
- Maintaining accommodation and shared spaces
- Supporting property maintenance and improvement projects
- Working outdoors across our 325-acre property
- Reinforcing routines, standards and accountability
- Supporting participant wellbeing by recognising changes and communicating concerns
- Completing shift documentation and handovers
- Helping maintain a safe, calm and respectful environment
You'll also help create an workplace where participants develop pride in themselves, their surroundings and the community they're part of.
This isn't about standing back and supervising.
You'll be actively involved every day.
You'll Love This Role If...
You'll probably thrive here if you:
- Naturally notice what needs doing.
- Enjoy practical work more than sitting behind a desk.
- Stay calm when everyone else is stressed.
- Can have respectful but direct conversations.
- Believe accountability is one of the greatest forms of support.
- Treat everyone with dignity and respect.
- Enjoy working as part of a close team.
- Have sound judgement and common sense.
- Like solving problems.
- Want to finish work knowing your efforts genuinely mattered.
What Success Looks Like
A successful Program Officer is someone who:
- Leads by example.
- Builds positive relationships whilst maintaining skilled boundaries.
- Supports participants whilst holding them accountable.
- Communicates openly and respectfully.
- Notices when something isn't quite right.
- Takes ownership rather than waiting to be asked.
- Works collaboratively with teammates.
- Uses sound judgement.
- Leaves every shift better than they found it.
Most importantly, they help create the consistency, structure and culture that allows participants to focus on recovery and building a different future.
