THE JOB
As the Rates and Revenue Officer, you’ll become a key part of the team responsible for ensuring accounts receivable, rates and water charges are processed smoothly and accurately. You’ll work closely within the Rates and Revenue Team, the Financial Accounting Team and Customer Experience Team, and other council departments to make sure customers are billed correctly, payments are properly allocated, and enquiries are handled efficiently and effectively.
We are seeking a systematic and capable person with strong basis in finance and excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills allowing the successful applicant to deal effectively with customer inquiries, investigate and resolve billing discrepancies, implement payment plans, and maintain accurate records of transactions.
This position will primarily be responsible for processing accounts receivable, providing support in rates and water billing. While a background in local government and/or the duties of this position is desirable what matters most is your financial capability, accuracy, initiative, and your willingness to learn and work with others.

SELECTION CRITERIA
Essential Criteria
1. Certificate IV qualification in Finance or equivalent knowledge and skills gained through experience.
2. Ability to effectively deliver the position requirements with direct or transferable financial experience and understanding of GST application.
3. High level of attention to detail and accuracy and ability to reconcile and analyse financial transactions, identify discrepancies and trace them to the source and resolve.
4. Ability to operate within in a cooperative team setting, displaying professionalism,
adaptability and strong interpersonal skills when interacting with a variety of personal across the organisation.
5. Demonstrated ability to provide a high standard of customer service to internal and external customers.
6. Demonstrated ability to plan and organise priorities and manage workflow.
7. Demonstrated competency in the use of financial accounting systems and Microsoft Excel.
Desirable Criteria
1. Previous accounts receivable processing experience.
2. Knowledge and experience of the rating provisions of the Local Government Act.

THE BENEFITS
- Fortnightly salary range of $2,807.20 to $3,159.40 per fortnight (gross) plus 12% superannuation. Salary offered within the range will be negotiated based on qualifications, skills and experience
- This is a permanent, full time position of 70 hours per fortnight however Council is willing to consider applications for part-time or job share arrangements
- Choice of primary work location between our Tumut and Tumbarumba offices
