About the role

HOMEMAX ACCOUNTING SERVICES PTY LTD is seeking a Senior Bookkeeper/Assistant Accountant to join our growing team based in Southport, QLD. This part-time position offers flexibility while providing meaningful work in a dynamic accounting environment. You will take on a pivotal role within our bookkeeping and accounting operations, providing essential financial support to our clients and internal business needs. Your expertise will directly contribute to the accuracy of financial records and the smooth running of our accounting services.

Key responsibilities

- Manage full bookkeeping functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processing and bank reconciliations for various clients

- Prepare and reconcile reports on a regular basis

- Maintain accurate, organised financial records using accounting software and systems, including Xero's fixed asset register, Xero file, and Xero reports

- Process invoices, receipts and expense documentation with meticulous attention to detail

- Prepare trial balances and general ledger reports for review by senior accountants

- Assist with tax compliance activities, including GST reporting and PAYG submissions

- Provide bookkeeping support across multiple clients, ensuring deadlines are consistently met

- Liaise with clients regarding financial documentation and accounting queries

- Mentor and support junior bookkeeping staff where applicable

- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy

What we're looking for

- Minimum 1–5 years' experience in bookkeeping or accounting roles, with demonstrated progression

- Strong proficiency with accounting software such as Xero or similar platforms

- Solid understanding of Australian taxation requirements, including GST, PAYG and superannuation compliance

- Excellent numerical accuracy and attention to detail, with proven ability to manage multiple tasks

- Competent knowledge of Excel and general office software; experience with Zoho is a plus

- Professional communication skills,



with the ability to liaise effectively with clients and team members

- Strong time management, with the ability to prioritise workload efficiently

- Sound knowledge of accounting principles

- Relevant qualifications such as a Bookkeeping Certificate, CPA Australia membership, or similar accounting credentials are advantageous

- A proactive approach to problem-solving and professional development

- Mandarin language skills preferred

- A strong sense of ownership and pride in your work

- Ability to work well under pressure during high-volume periods
