About the role

Dynamic Hydro Excavations is seeking an experienced Underground Utility Locator to join our team on a full-time basis in Southport, QLD 4215. This is a critical role within our surveying operations, responsible for accurately identifying and marking underground utilities prior to excavation works. As an Underground Utility Locator, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety of our team, protecting essential infrastructure, and maintaining compliance with industry standards and regulations. Your expertise will be fundamental to the success of our projects and the protection of public utilities.

What you'll be doing

1. Locating and marking underground utilities including water mains, gas lines, electrical cables, telecommunications conduits, and sewerage systems using specialised detection equipment

2. Operating and maintaining advanced utility location technology and ground-penetrating radar (GPR) equipment to ensure accurate utility identification

3. Conducting thorough site inspections and surveys to document the location and depth of underground services

4. Liaising with utility companies and service providers to obtain as-built plans, drawings, and service information

5. Marking utility locations clearly and accurately on site using appropriate paint, flags, or other marking methods

6. Preparing detailed utility location reports and documentation for project records

7. Communicating findings to project managers, excavation teams, and other stakeholders to ensure safe work practices

8. Adhering to health and safety regulations, including confined space entry protocols and safe work method statements

9. Maintaining accurate records of all utility location activities and site data

10. Assisting with training and mentoring junior locators as required

What we're looking for

1.



Formal qualifications in surveying, civil engineering, or a recognised utility location certification programme

2. Minimum of 3-5 years' proven experience as an Underground Utility Locator or in a similar surveying role within the construction or utilities sector

3. Proficiency in operating utility detection equipment, including electromagnetic locators, ground-penetrating radar (GPR), and cable avoidance tools

4. Strong knowledge of underground utility systems, including water, gas, electricity, telecommunications, and sewerage infrastructure

5. Excellent understanding of relevant Australian standards, particularly AS/NZS 4360 and utility marking guidelines

6. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, service plans, and technical documentation

7. Current driver's licence and willingness to travel to various job sites across the region

8. Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in utility identification and marking

9. Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams

10. Current First Aid certification and commitment to maintaining all required safety certifications

11. Physical fitness and ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions

12. Experience with Dial Before You Dig (DBYD) procedures is highly desirable
