Zoo-keeper Opportunity: Hobart Zoo and Aquarium

Location: Richmond, Tasmania

Are you passionate about wildlife, conservation, and animal care? Hobart Zoo and Aquarium is seeking a dedicated animal care professional to join our expanding team. This role is ideal for someone with hands-on experience caring for animals and the confidence to engage visitors through education and conservation messaging.

Key Responsibilities:

- Care for a range of species, with a focus on birds, native animals, and ungulates.

- Maintain clean, safe, and well-presented animal environments.

- Prepare feeds, monitor animal health, and deliver enrichment activities that support animal wellbeing.

- Assist with veterinary care, health checks, and ongoing animal observations.

- Educate visitors about animal behaviour, conservation, and species preservation.

- Work collaboratively with a team to support smooth, safe daily zoo operations

Required Qualifications & Skills:

- Extensive experience working with animals, particularly birds, native species, and ungulates.

- A genuine passion for wildlife conservation, animal welfare, and high-quality animal care.

- Strong communication skills and the ability to engage visitors of all ages.





- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

- A positive attitude and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Desirable Qualifications:

- Formal qualifications in Exhibited Animals, Zoology, Animal Science, or a related field.

- Previous paid zookeeping or animal care experience.

- First Aid and CPR certification.

- Working With Vulnerable People registration.
