The Role
The HR Business Partner provides practical people partnering support to leaders across Fire Rescue Victoria, working closely with Senior HR Business Partners to deliver workforce priorities and organisational projects.
This role has a strong focus on supporting a project involving complex workforce and employee relations matters. The role partners with leaders to assist employees experiencing changes in capacity, support workplace adjustments and manage the impacts of employee absences. It provides balanced, practical advice that supports workforce continuity, employee wellbeing and organisational needs.
Through collaborative engagement and proactive problem-solving, the HR Business Partner helps leaders navigate employee matters requiring careful management while strengthening workforce capability and supporting positive workplace outcomes.
Functional Accountabilities
- Partner with leaders on workforce and employee matters.
- Support workforce sustainability, wellbeing and attendance strategies.
- Provide guidance on complex employee management matters.
- Coach leaders in proactive people management practices.
The Team
The People and Culture Directorate take a lead role in strategy development and implementation to enable Fire Rescue Victoria to have a safe workplace, a respectful and achievement‑oriented culture, and an agile and engaged workforce. The key functions of the directorate are Human Resources Systems and Services, Workplace Relations and Ethical Standards, Organisational Development and Business Partnering, and Media and Communications.

What you will need to Succeed
To be successful in this position, you will have:
- A formal degree qualification in Human Resource Management, Industrial Relations, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related wellbeing discipline
- Demonstrated experience in a generalist HR or HR Business Partner role, with the ability to contribute to both operational and strategic people outcomes.
- Proven ability to support leaders in managing workplace adjustments and workforce availability.
- Experience supporting leaders and employees through periods where additional support to return to work, including facilitating workplace adjustments.
- Demonstrated capability in supporting employee wellbeing and contributing to psychologically safe workplace practices.
- Sound understanding of contemporary human resource practices, employment legislation and diversity.
