Role overview

A Hairdresser’s role and purpose is to provide professional hair care and styling services that enhance a client’s appearance, confidence, and self‑expression. The role exists to combine technical expertise with creativity, ensuring clients receive cuts, colours, and styles that suit their personality, lifestyle, and cultural preferences. Beyond styling, hairdressers also advise on hair health, recommend suitable products, and deliver treatments that maintain scalp and hair condition.

Key responsibilities

- Client Consultation: Discuss desired styles, provide professional advice, and recommend suitable treatments or products.
- Hair Cutting & Styling: Cut, trim, and style hair using scissors,



clippers, and razors to achieve requested looks.
- Colouring & Chemical Services: Apply hair colouring, highlights, bleaching, perming, straightening, and other chemical treatments safely.
- Hair & Scalp Care: Shampoo, condition, and treat scalp or hair issues to maintain health and appearance.
- Special Occasion Styling: Create hairstyles for weddings, cultural events, and formal functions.
- Salon Hygiene & Safety: Maintain cleanliness of tools, equipment, and work areas; comply with health and safety regulations.
- Customer Service: Deliver a positive client experience, build loyalty, and encourage repeat business.
- Product Knowledge: Recommend and upsell hair care products to support client needs and salon revenue.
- Team Contribution: Work collaboratively with other staff to ensure smooth salon operations.

Qualifications and skills

- Certificate III in Hairdressing (or equivalent overseas certification)
- 1–2 years’ salon or freelance experience in hair cutting, colouring, and styling
- Skilled in blow‑drying, curls, braids, buns, and up‑dos for bridal, editorial, and everyday looks
- Solid knowledge of colour theory, face analysis, and current hair trends
