Dianella Cottage Adult Program has offices in Katoomba and Lithgow and provides trauma-informed, evidence-based alcohol and drug counselling, groups, case management, outreach and Aftercare.

About the role

Please note that this role is based at our Lithgow office. The Peer Support Worker role honours and harnesses the unique and invaluable learnings of the lived experience of alcohol and other drug dependency challenges, treatment, and the recovery journey. This role-modelling and relatability provides clients with hope and optimism about their own circumstances and recovery journey, and valuable tools to help them on their way.

As a Peer Support Worker, you will collaborate with our clients to provide “walk-with” support and effective peer connections within recovery-oriented and trauma informed frameworks.

This position is embedded in the clinical service and provides support alongside clinicians under a shared care framework. Peer Support is a core component of the treatment and support options available to our clients.

This is a permanent part-time opportunity,



working 15.2 hours per week.

Primary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

- Provide high-quality engagement and support services to clients and their families using evidence-based practice principles.
- Facilitate peer-support and social engagement group programs.
- Practice in a manner that complies with relevant standards and guidelines.
- Develop and nurture partnerships with key stakeholders.
- Support the client intake and assessment process in collaboration with clinical staff.
- Work with clients - and, where appropriate, their families - to develop, implement, achieve and review individual treatment goals.
- Provide support to clients including advocacy, community linkages, transport.
- Facilitate consumer consultation processes to improve service delivery.

About you The successful candidate will share our passion and commitment to service delivery excellence. Additionally, you will possess the following:

- A lived experience of substance dependency recovery and treatment involving accessing Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) service/s.
- Previous experience in a Peer Support role or similar consumer support or lived experience role in an AOD service.
- Demonstrated understanding,



experience and effectiveness in working considerately and non-judgmentally with people from diverse backgrounds, experiencing complex challenges.
- Knowledge and understanding of trauma informed care practice and safe storytelling.
- Demonstrated experience facilitating or co-facilitating recovery or support groups.
- High level written and verbal communication skills.
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office Programs; Word, Excel and ability to learn new online systems.
- Certificate 4 in Alcohol and Other Drugs or similar will be highly regarded.

The base hourly range for this role is $40.49 – $43.42 dependent on skills, qualifications and experience. Here is what we have on offer:
