Applied Physics Specialist (AI Training) About The Role What if your years of physics expertise could directly shape how AI understands the physical world? We're looking for PhD-level Applied Physicists to probe the limits of cutting-edge AI models — designing problems that expose where these systems break down, and providing the rigorous feedback needed to fix them. This is a fully remote, flexible contract role.
No prior AI experience needed — just deep mastery of physics and the ability to communicate complex ideas with precision.
Organization: Alignerr
Type: Hourly Contract
Location: Remote
Commitment: 10–40 hours/week What You'll Do Design advanced, open-ended physics problems at PhD qualifying exam level — requiring multi-step reasoning and rigorous mathematical derivation
Author comprehensive "golden" solutions with flawless step-by-step logic, precise constants, and accurate unit conversions
Audit AI-generated simulations, proofs, and explanations for physical consistency — identifying where models "hallucinate" violations of first principles
Provide structured, expert feedback to improve AI reasoning around boundary conditions, conservation laws, and physical constraints
Work independently and asynchronously — fully on your own schedule Who You Are PhD completed or in final stages in Applied Physics, Physics, Engineering Physics, or a closely related field
Deep mastery across the core pillars of physics: Classical Mechanics, Electrodynamics, Statistical Mechanics, and Quantum Mechanics
Exceptional ability to explain complex physical phenomena and mathematical derivations in clear, structured English
Uncompromising eye for detail — units, scientific notation, dimensional analysis, and logical proof structure
Self-motivated and consistent when working independently
No prior AI or tech experience required Nice to Have Experience with data annotation, scientific dataset evaluation, or quality assurance for research outputs
Proficiency with tools such as MATLAB, COMSOL, Python (NumPy/SciPy), or similar
Background in research, academia, or applied engineering environments
Familiarity with AI tools or language model evaluation as an end user Why Join Us Work on high-impact AI projects alongside the world's leading AI research labs
Fully remote and flexible — work when and where it suits you
Freelance autonomy with the structure of meaningful, intellectually rigorous work
Gain firsthand exposure to how cutting-edge large language models are trained and evaluated
Contribute to ensuring AI systems respect the fundamental laws that govern our physical world
Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as recent projects launch
