Architectural Graduate

Role Overview: The role will assist more experienced architects by performing qualified architectural work of limited scope in the planning, design, and construction phases of a wide variety of building projects. This will include assisting with the preparation of preliminary architectural drawings following the client’s statement of requirements which indicates the nature and scope of the project. The role will also include existing conditions inspections, developing design elements, project documentation and 3D modelling, preparing presentation documents, contract administration support, data calculation and collation, and project reporting, in accordance with in-house operating standards and procedures.

Graduates will be encouraged to develop skills and competencies across all project phases to assist them in the architectural registration process. This role forms an integral part of our team and our Partnership and requires working collaboratively with others to achieve our Practice’s mission to ‘Impact Tomorrow’

Qualifications Required: Accredited Masters qualification in Architecture.

Skills & Experience:

- Working knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of architecture.

- Working knowledge of building materials, their function and physical properties, and construction methods.

- Basic knowledge of structural, electrical, and mechanical engineering as related to buildings.

- Basic knowledge of applicable codes, laws, rules and standards regulating the design and construction of buildings.

- Basic knowledge of building costs.

- Ability to creatively portray architectural elements and develop architectural designs.

- Ability to express ideas effectively both orally and in writing.

- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with co-workers, clients and technical experts.

- Knowledge of and competency in the use of architectural and administrative software, including AutoCAD/Revit, Google SketchUp, Photoshop, InDesign, and the Microsoft Office Suite.

Key Technical Competencies:

1. Preparation of Presentation Documents and Architectural Drawings Prepares presentation documents and preliminary architectural drawings in accordance with the client’s statement of requirements,



which indicates the nature and scope of the project / task.

2. Developing Understanding of Client’s Requirements Able to analyse the client’s statement of requirements, understand the intent of the project, and meet with client representatives to clarify the project intent and obtain additional information for development of a return brief.

3. Existing Conditions Site Inspections Inspects project sites to make sketches, take measurements and photographs, and otherwise document actual site conditions to aid in developing the final architectural design, and prepares factual written reports of findings.

4. Design Sensibility Develops design elements with a responsive and innovative design sensibility, as well as key consideration for the project intent, brief and budget, constructability and the achievement of the optimum project outcome for the client, users and the community.

5. Demonstrating Understanding of Cost and Time Calculations Demonstrates ability to understand and incorporate project probable cost and construction time calculations in the design and documentation of a project to achieve budgetary and timeline compliance.

6. Coordinating Other Specialist Consultants Liaises with Specialist Consultants, preparing preliminary drawings where necessary, showing general characteristics of the structure and of proposed design solutions, as well as preliminary cost estimates to complete the project for approval by the supervisor and by the client.

7. Evaluating Requests and Recommending Actions Evaluates requests, provides architectural advice and guidance regarding proposed changes, and recommends appropriate action and change orders to implement any changes in the plans.

8. Inspecting Projects Periodically inspects project as required to resolve problems concerning compliance with drawings and specifications and may attend the final inspection of the project after completion to insure full compliance with drawings and specifications
