APCO is Australia's national packaging stewardship organisation and a recognised leader in advancing sustainable packaging and circular economy outcomes. This is a rare chance to lead an organisation at the centre of Australia's packaging, recycling and sustainability agenda and shape one of the country's most significant environmental and regulatory reforms. The organisation is entering a transformative period of growth, influence and impact.
It is APCO’s aim to transition from a covenant model to Australia's national co-regulatory Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) scheme administrator for packaging, subject to government and regulatory decisions.
Reporting to the Board, the Chief Executive Officer will lead the development and execution of strategy with the Board and translate its long-term vision into disciplined execution. Working at the intersection of government, industry and environmental policy, you will lead APCO through a period of system wide and significant organisational and regulatory transformation, balancing the needs of government, industry, members and the community while building confidence in APCO's prospective role as Australia's national packaging scheme administrator subject to government and regulatory decisions. You will strengthen organisational capability, governance and member value, foster a high-performing and accountable culture,
and position APCO as the trusted leader of Australia's evolving packaging stewardship framework.
We are seeking an accomplished CEO or senior executive with a track record of leading complex organisations through transformation, regulatory reform or significant organisational growth. You will bring strategic judgement, commercial acumen and the ability to navigate ambiguity while making sound decisions in highly scrutinised environments. Equally important is your ability to build trusted relationships across government, regulators, industry, directors and members, balancing diverse stakeholder interests while delivering practical outcomes.
Experience within regulated, co-regulated or complex operating environments—including sustainability, stewardship, infrastructure, utilities, environmental services, government or adjacent industries—will be highly regarded.
This opportunity will appeal to a purpose-driven leader who is motivated by solving complex challenges, influencing national policy and system outcomes, and building an organisation with lasting impact. You will combine strategic thinking with a bias for action, lead with authenticity and integrity, and inspire confidence through collaboration, accountability and delivery.
