Our client is a large NSW Government Organisation who are seeking Backend Java Developer to join their team.

The backend java developer participates actively in an application development and support for projects under Digital Teaching and Learning team, accountable for delivering activities associated with the application lifecycle. The role ensures high-quality and responsive customer service, good practice software development, maintenance (including legacy systems), and support for the implementation of new initiatives. The developer provides sound, technical and professional advice to the role supervisor, and actively contributes to development, planning, system documentation and reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Participate in a project development and provide timely project deliverable, high quality ICT support and related services to the Department’s core business; manage and maintain system performance; resolve system incidents in enterprise scale applications in line with departmental processes; enable effective integration of new systems and ensure the ongoing operational efficiency of legacy applications and systems as required

2. Provide advice for new initiatives though interpretation and translation of business requirements, and technical analysis for solutions (including resourcing and cost estimates); oversee application change management processes and technology upgrades to improve operational efficiency and minimise down-time

3. Work with ICT professionals, key stakeholders,



and system users to integrate off-the-shelf applications and systems, as well as amend and upgrade the Department’s applications, databases, and systems; actively contribute throughout the scoping, designing, development, testing and implementation phases as applicable to the project

4. Contribute to ICT planning to ensure both recent / legacy applications and change requests are considered in the context of emerging ICT requirements; actively contribute to future resource and capacity planning, ICT security and disaster recovery planning activities to provide adequate protection for the Department and system users

5. Maintain timely and accurate system documentation, including change requests, technical and user guides, software asset and configuration registers, problem and resolution knowledge bases, and other documentation produced during the application and/or system lifecycle

6. Provide third level technical support for applications, systems, and programs; analyse and resolve problems, and where necessary, follow-through with external service providers; monitor recurring problems to identify trends and resolve performance issues

7. Provide timely, specialist advice and support to the role supervisor,



senior managers and system users to ensure seamless service delivery, reliability and optimal effectiveness of applications, systems and programs; provide operational reports to the role supervisor and/or ICT senior management team

Selection Criteria:

1. 5 or more years of experience in back-end development using Java technologies with design and development of microservice based RESTful APIs (JSON)

2. Demonstrated experience in one or more large scale enterprise technologies with experience in supporting application maintenance, platform upgrades for legacy systems, incident management and investigations.

3. Significant knowledge in design, programming, and testing of an object-oriented programming language [Node.js and Typescript, JBoss EAP6, LDAP Directories, SOA Web Service Standards].

4. Experience with AWS, in particular Document DB, API Gateway

5. Experience working with Microsoft and Google APIs and OAuth flows

6. Currency of and in-depth familiarity of databases such as Oracle and/or SQL Server.

7. Good understanding of Kubernetes, Docker containers and OpenShift platform, and developing delivery pipelines using Tekton.Experience in front-end development using VueJS, React or Angular.

8. Experience in implementing robust services and RESTful APIs to power web applications.

9. Experience with JBoss 7, TIBCO and Cloud technologies (preferable)

On offer is a daily rate salary contract at a highly sought after NSW Government organisation, with a highly competitive daily rate.
