About the role

POP Business is seeking a Business Services Senior Accountant to join our growing team in Sydney.

This is a full-time position offering the opportunity to work across a diverse portfolio of SME, trust and individual clients, delivering comprehensive compliance, taxation and advisory services.

As a Senior Accountant, you will take a strategic role in managing client relationships, reviewing the work of junior staff and contributing to the growth of our business services practice. Exposure to SMSF accounting is highly regarded but not essential.

What you'll be doing

- Preparing and reviewing financial statements and income tax returns for companies, trusts, partnerships and individuals in accordance with Australian accounting standards and ATO requirements
- Managing a portfolio of clients across a range of industries, acting as their primary point of contact for compliance and advisory matters
- Advising clients on tax planning, business structuring, Division 7A, CGT and other technical matters relevant to their circumstances
- Reviewing work prepared by junior and intermediate accountants, providing technical guidance and development support
- Identifying opportunities to add value for clients through proactive advice and identifying advisory service opportunities
- Liaising with the ATO, ASIC and other regulatory bodies on client matters as required
- Contributing to the development of internal processes, tools and service offerings
- Mentoring and supervising junior accounting staff across the business services team
- Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of tax law, accounting standards and industry developments




- Building and nurturing client relationships through proactive communication and quality service delivery

What we're looking for

- Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance or related discipline, with professional accounting credentials (CA or CPA)
- Minimum 5+ years' professional accounting experience in a business services or public practice workplace
- Robust technical knowledge across companies, trusts, partnerships and individual tax returns
- Experience with SMSF accounting and compliance is highly regarded but not required
- Proficiency with cloud accounting and tax preparation software commonly used in Australian practice
- Strong technical accounting and tax knowledge, with the ability to apply this to complex client scenarios
- Excellent communication skills, capable of explaining technical matters to clients in clear, accessible language
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple client relationships and priorities whilst maintaining attention to detail
- Proactive problem-solving mindset with a commitment to continuous learning and career development
- Experience in business development, client management or team leadership would be highly advantageous
