About the role
Civilworks Australia Pty Ltd is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Civil Estimator to join our growing team. This is a full-time position based in Padstow, NSW. As a Civil Estimator, you will play a crucial role in the planning and financial success of our civil construction projects.
You will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates, analysing project specifications, and providing valuable insights that support our business development and project delivery teams. This position is essential to ensuring our projects are competitively priced whilst maintaining profitability and quality standards.
Key responsibilities
MUST BE ABLE TO PRICE COUNCIL PROJECTS TENDERS
1. Prepare detailed cost estimates for civil engineering and construction projects based on project plans, specifications, and site conditions
2. Analyse tender documents and technical drawings to identify scope, materials, labour requirements, and potential risks
3. Conduct site inspections and assessments to gather information relevant to project costing and feasibility
4. Liaise with quantity surveyors, project managers, and suppliers to obtain accurate pricing and information for estimates
5. Develop and maintain databases of historical cost data, labour rates, and material pricing
6. Monitor and track project costs against estimates to identify variances and provide feedback for continuous improvement
7. Prepare supporting documentation and cost breakdowns for tender submissions and client presentations
8. Contribute to the development of bidding strategies and identify opportunities for value engineering
9. Communicate effectively with internal teams to support project planning and resource allocation
10.
Maintain compliance with company procedures and industry standards in all estimating activities
What we're looking for
1. Proven experience as a Civil Estimator or similar role within the construction industry, preferably with 3+ years' experience
2. Strong knowledge of civil engineering practices, construction methodologies, and building codes relevant to Australia
3. Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
4. Excellent understanding of quantity surveying principles and cost analysis techniques
5. The ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and project documentation accurately
6. Strong numerical and analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail
7. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across teams
8. Competency in research and benchmarking to ensure competitive and realistic estimates
9. Time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines
10. A willingness to develop and stay current with industry trends and estimating best practices
11. Relevant tertiary qualifications in civil engineering, construction management, or quantity surveying are advantageous
