About the role
We are looking for a hands-on Data Engineering Manager / Team Leader to lead our Data Engineering Team, responsible for building and improving the systems and pipelines that turn large volumes of aerial survey data into reliable, high-quality geospatial products and insights. This role would suit someone with strong technical experience and demonstrated people leadership capability.
Working closely with the Head of Data and Production, you will help set priorities, support your team to apply engineering best practices, improve workflows and contribute technically to key data engineering projects. You’ll play an important role in building scalable tools, automated processes and cloud-based solutions that improve quality, efficiency and repeatability across our products.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, support and develop a team of Data Engineers
- Plan and prioritise team workload to align with business needs and project delivery timelines.
- Design, build and improve automated data processing workflows and production tools
- Provide hands-on technical contribution to key projects
- Improve engineering practices, including documentation, architectural principles, testing, code review and version control
- Work closely with internal teams to understand requirements and solve technical problems
- Coach team members through feedback, guidance and regular performance conversations
- Identify opportunities to improve systems, processes, quality and efficiency
About you
You are a hands-on technical leader who enjoys supporting people, solving problems and improving how work gets done. You have led, coached or supported a team in a technical environment and are comfortable balancing people leadership with hands-on technical contribution.
You don’t need to have worked in geospatial before. What matters most is your ability to lead people, bring strong technical capability, solve problems and improve the way work gets done.
You may bring experience across some or all of the following areas:
- Building capability, setting expectations and supporting performance in a team environment
- Data engineering, software engineering or a similar technical role
- Python and software development practices
- Large datasets, automated workflows or data processing systems
- Problem-solving, planning and communication
- Working with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Improving systems, processes,
quality and efficiency in a practical and sustainable way
- Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, or the ability to quickly build capability in this area
- Experience with automated testing, CI/CD pipelines or deployment frameworks
- Geospatial, remote sensing, LiDAR, aerial imagery, photogrammetry or spatial libraries such as GDAL or PDAL would be valuable, but is not essential

Although not essential, applicants with demonstrated technical experience in Geospatial / Remote Sensing big data processing, geospatial AI/ML Ops or designing and operating cloud-native data platforms on AWS are strongly encouraged to apply.
