The Role The ABC is looking for a Digital Social Lead to deliver high-impact original stories, breaking News and high-quality features across digital and social platforms.

The Job

- Lead breaking news and daily digital/social content for national audiences.
- Provide editorial leadership in the Canberra Parliament House Bureau.
- Ensure content meets ABC standards, legal requirements, and community expectations.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of digital and social producers.
- Use audience data and analytics to guide editorial and distribution decisions.
- Resolve editorial, legal, technical, and production issues quickly.
- Work with bureau leadership on content strategy aligned to ABC News.
- Produce stories that reflect Australia’s diversity.
- Engage outer-suburban communities to find relevant stories.

About You

You'll have

- Relevant qualifications or equivalent experience.
- Robust digital news production and CMS skills.
- Ability to make quick, sound editorial decisions under pressure.
- Skilled in writing, sub-editing, and crafting engaging headlines.
- Understanding of audience trends, analytics, engagement, and SEO.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and time management skills.
- Knowledge of national affairs,



politics, economics, and government.
- Passion for telling diverse Australian stories and building and maintaining broad community contacts.
