About the role
People Care Services is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Disability Support Worker to join our team in Cleveland, QLD. This is a casual position that offers flexibility whilst making a meaningful difference in the lives of people with disabilities. As a Disability Support Worker, you will provide essential support and assistance to individuals with various disabilities, enabling them to live as independently as possible and participate fully in their communities.
This role is central to our mission of delivering person-centred care and support that enhances the quality of life for our service users.
What you'll be doing
- Assisting service users with personal care activities including hygiene, grooming, dressing and toileting
- Supporting individuals with mobility and accessing community facilities and activities
- Helping with meal preparation and nutritional support as required
- Providing emotional support and companionship to foster social inclusion and wellbeing
- Assisting with household tasks and maintaining a safe living setting
- Supporting service users to develop life skills and pursue their goals and interests
- Recording and communicating relevant information about service users' needs and progress
- Maintaining confidentiality and respecting the dignity and rights of all individuals in your care
- Collaborating with other team members and allied health professionals to ensure coordinated, holistic support
- Adhering to all relevant legislation, policies and procedures, including health and safety standards
What we're looking for
- A genuine passion for supporting people with disabilities and a commitment to person-centred care
- Experience working in disability support, aged care, community services or a related field
- A current valid Certificate III in Disability Support or equivalent qualification (or willingness to obtain this)
- A current Working with Children Check or equivalent screening clearance
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build positive relationships
- Physical capability to assist with mobility and personal care tasks, including manual handling
- A flexible and reliable approach with the ability to work varied hours including evenings and weekends
- Problem-solving skills and the ability to respond appropriately to changing circumstances
- A non-judgmental attitude and respect for individual diversity and cultural differences
- Current First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain this)
- A valid driver's licence and access to a reliable vehicle would be advantageous
