We are seeking a mid to senior level Electrical Switchboard Drafter with a strong background in low voltage (LV) switchboard design to join a well-established engineering and manufacturing business. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys technically challenging work and wants to be involved throughout the design process, from tender support through to project delivery.
Working closely with project managers, estimators and engineers, you'll play a key role in designing high-quality switchboards that meet Australian standards and client specifications.
About the Role
As an Electrical Switchboard Drafter, you will be responsible for producing detailed switchboard designs for a variety of commercial and industrial projects. You'll also provide technical support during the tender stage and collaborate with internal teams to ensure successful project outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and draft LV electrical switchboards, including high-current main switchboards (1600A ) and complex control panels.
- Interpret electrical specifications, drawings and client requirements.
- Produce single-line diagrams, schematics and detailed manufacturing drawings.
- Create switchboard layouts including front, rear, side and internal views.
- Prepare bills of materials (BOMs) and equipment schedules.
- Develop wiring diagrams, power layouts and technical documentation.
- Assist the estimating team by providing technical design input during tender submissions.
- Coordinate with mechanical drafters, project managers and engineers throughout project delivery.
- Manage multiple design projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
- Ensure all drawings comply with Australian Standards and project requirements.
- Issue drawing revisions and maintain document control.
- Respond to technical queries from clients and internal stakeholders.
About You
To be successful, you will have:
- 3 - 5 years' electrical drafting experience.
- Solid experience in AutoCAD (ideal) and relevant CAD experience.
- Demonstrated experience in complex control panels and high-current switchboards.
- Strong knowledge of Australian Standards, including AS/NZS 61439 and AS 3000 Wiring Rules.
- Experience producing electrical schematics, layouts and manufacturing drawings.
- Ability to interpret electrical specifications and technical documentation.
- Strong understanding of switchboard components and electrical equipment selection.
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach.
- Experience supporting tender submissions and estimating activities.
