EOI – Community Member, Queensland Branch Committee (RANZCP)

About the role

Tenure: Remunerated appointment for a three-year term, up to $476 for a 5 hour day in accordance with the RANZCP Community Member Remuneration Policy.

Location: Brisbane, Queensland (meetings held face to face and online)

The Queensland (QLD) Branch Committee is seeking a Community Member with lived or living experience as someone who has received services from a psychiatrist, or as a carer or supporter of someone who received services from a psychiatrist (personally or as a carer) who can contribute

strategically to discussions on mental health policy, service delivery, and advocacy. The role of the QLD Branch Committee is to represent local psychiatrists and trainees, advocate for mental health reform, and advise the state government on

mental healthcare.

The Community Member will share their lived expertise from a consumer and/or carer perspective, providing an independent voice that ensures the experiences of people affected by mental illness are reflected in the Branch Committee’s deliberations, advocacy priorities, and stakeholder engagement.

Key Responsibilities

- Attend and actively contribute to scheduled meetings
- Provide lived-experience input from a consumer and/or carer perspective to inform the group’s work and discussions
- Review meeting papers and provide written input between meetings as required
- Work collaboratively with committee members, the Chair, and RANZCP staff
- Adhere to RANZCP policies, including confidentiality and conflict of interest requirements

What you’ll bring

- Lived or living experience as someone who has received services from a psychiatrist, or as a carer or supporter of someone who received services from a psychiatrist.
- Residence in QLD
- An interest in contributing to improvements in psychiatry training, policy, and practice
- Ability to reflect on and communicate lived-experience insights in a way that informs professional discussions and supports improvements to the group’s work
- Commitment to actively participate in scheduled meetings, with an average time commitment of 1.5 hours 11 times per year.
- Alignment with RANZCP values and commitment to confidentiality
- Australian or Recent Zealand citizenship, or valid Australian work rights
- Independence from RANZCP employment (current employees are not eligible to apply)
- Previous experience in committees, advisory roles, or relevant lived-experience advocacy is welcome but not required
