Located in Far West Queensland, in the heart of the Channel Country, the Barcoo is one of the more remote shires with an area of 61,974 square kilometres in far Western Queensland, incorporating the townships of Jundah, Stonehenge and Windorah.

The Barcoo Shire lays claim to the most exceptionally unique place in Australia, and the world. It is the only place where two prominent and significate inland rivers meet to form a creek. The Thomson and Barcoo rivers become Cooper's Creek.

Barcoo Shire is the gateway to Birdsville, Bedourie, Innaminka, Quilpie, Longreach and Winton.

The Role

Barcoo Shire Council is seeking a Finance Manager to lead its financial operations, with a strong focus on asset management, grant funding acquittals, and insurance coordination. This is a key leadership role supporting sustainable service delivery and long-term financial planning for the community.

Reporting to the Director of Community and Corporate Services, the Finance Manager is responsible for the effective management of BSC’s financial functions, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements, funding obligations, and best-practice financial governance.

Key focus areas include:

· Asset accounting and asset management reporting

· Grant funding management and acquittals

· Financial reporting, budgeting,



and strategic advice

· Team coordination and development

About you

Ideally, we are seeking someone with demonstrated experience or knowledge of local government finance, particularly asset management and grant funding acquittals. Previous experience with Practical (PCS) will be highly regarded.

While it is highly desirable to be CPA or CA Qualified (or working towards) we are open to applicants who have tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.

You will possess strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills, coupled with the ability to work autonomously and adapt to the challenges and rewards of remote service delivery.
