Reporting to the Team Leader Health and Social Justice, we are seeking a collaborative, values-led staff member to deliver place-based prevention and food systems reform. The role Based at our offices in Sunshine, this role will lead and drive partnership work to strengthen Brimbank’s food system, with a focus on culturally and racially marginalised (CARM) communities.
The position will work collaboratively across Council and with external health and community partners, lead and influence collective impact initiatives, and generate learning and evidence to inform system change:
- Seek to understand the existing food system in Brimbank through consultation and collaboration with organisations and partnerships.
- Identify and collaborate with partners, community leaders and Council staff to use strategic levers to drive collective action in Brimbank’s food system.
- Lead the design,
implementation and embedding of long-term place-based prevention initiatives that address structural barriers to the food system and health equity, with a focus on CARM communities.
- Champion and embed health equity principles into planning and decision-making, ensuring meaningful involvement of CARM communities and genuine collaboration with coalition members to drive coordinated prevention efforts.
- Lead multi-faceted project management, including planning, stakeholder coordination, risk management and delivery of outcomes.
- Lead and contribute to capacity strengthening and collective learning, and deliver on internal monitoring, evaluation and learning requirements to cultivate change and continuous improvement.
- Provide strategic advice to inform and influence organisational policies and practice to support Brimbank’s food system.
- Participate in forums and networks to inform best practice approaches. As a result, Brimbank will have a better coordinated, resilient and equitable food system filled with reliable, affordable, fresh food that our CARM communities are empowered to access.
To be considered you will have:
- A tertiary qualification in community development, health promotion, food, nutrition and/or dietetics, agriculture, environment or a relevant discipline.
- Demonstrated experience leading health promotion or community wellbeing initiatives, including implementation and evaluation.
- Experience applying systems thinking, evidence and partnership-based approaches to complex social or public health issues.
- Ability to manage and sustain partnerships and networks with a range of service providers from different sectors.
- Demonstrated experience engaging with communities,
including culturally and racially marginalised communities, using inclusive and culturally secure approaches.
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing reports, briefings and project documentation.
- Ability to work autonomously, manage competing priorities and contribute to organisational outcomes.
- Current and satisfactory Police Records Check.
The following attributes would be highly desirable:
- Previous experience working in local government, place-based prevention and/or collective impact initiatives.
- Knowledge of food systems, food security and the social determinants of health.
- Experience contributing to monitoring, evaluation and learning processes to support continuous improvement and systems change.
