About the Role The Rocklands Copper Project (Rocklands Copper Mine & Processing Plant), located 17 km west of Cloncurry in Northwest Queensland, is a premier copper asset within a Tier-1 mining jurisdiction. Currently transitioning from care and maintenance, the project is on track for a strategic restart in mid-to-late 2027.
Reporting to the SSE/General Manager, we are seeking an experienced and versatile Health & Safety Superintendent to join our site Rocklands team. This is a pivotal opportunity to provide visible leadership, influence safety culture, and ensure our processes support secure, sustainable, and high-performing operations as we target our site restart. You will work closely with site leadership to ensure consistent safety standards, effective risk management and strong compliance outcomes.
What You’ll Do
Key Responsibilities
- Proven senior leadership experience in health and safety within heavy industrial,
mining, or bulk materials handling operations preferred
- Strong capability in leading and developing multidisciplinary teams, shaping safety culture, and driving performance improvement
- Knowledge of health and safety management systems, critical risk management, incident investigation, risk assessment, permit systems, auditing, and compliance
- Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication, and influencing skills at all levels, including senior leaders, frontline teams, contractors, and external parties
- Analytical mindset with experience using data, root cause analysis, and structured problem-solving tools to drive improvements
- Relevant safety qualifications in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent, plus demonstrated contemporary best-practice knowledge
- A collaborative, authentic leadership style grounded in accountability, visibility, and continuous improvement.
- Identify workplace hazards and run safety improvement programs.
- Ensure workplace health and safety systems and compliance with legal regulations are followed
What We Are Looking For
Key Requirements
Essential
- Ability to work in a physical, hands-on processing environment.
- Willingness to learn and follow site procedures.
- Current driver’s licence.
- Previous experience in a Safety Superintendent or senior HSE role
- Strong incident investigation and auditing capability
- Confident leadership and stakeholder engagement skills
- A proven track record of designing and rolling out brand new site wide safety processes
Highly regarded but not essential:
- Formal statutory safety certificates required by local mining or energy regulators.
- Demonstrable success managing safety cultures in remote, Fly-In Fly-Out (FIFO) environments where fatigue and mental health management are prominent risks.
