Virginia Nursery Pty Ltd is the proud home of Virginia Home & Garden, Doncho's Café and Stella's Home & Gifts. As a proudly family-owned and operated South Australian business, we employ a diverse team across retail, hospitality, administration and horticulture. Due to our continued growth, we are seeking an experienced and motivated Human Resources & Payroll Officer to join our administration team.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in shaping our people and culture. Working closely with the Managing Director and department managers, you will lead recruitment, support employee development, implement and maintain HR systems and procedures, assist with performance management, and help foster a positive, high-performing workplace. In addition, you will be responsible for managing the end-to-end payroll function, ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time.

The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will provide professional Human Resources support while managing the payroll function across the business.

Key Responsibilities

Human Resources

- Coordinate the full recruitment process, including drafting job advertisements, screening applications, interviewing candidates and coordinating appointments.
- Enter and maintain applicant and employee information within the HR management system.
- Prepare employment contracts, onboarding documentation and coordinate employee inductions.
- Develop, review and maintain Human Resources policies, procedures and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Work closely with department managers to coordinate probation reviews,



staff appraisals and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Provide advice and support to managers on employee relations, performance management and HR best practices.
- Ensure compliance with Fair Work legislation, Modern Awards, employment contracts and company policies.
- Assist in developing workplace initiatives that promote employee engagement, continuous improvement and a positive workplace culture.
- Maintain accurate and confidential employee records and HR documentation.

Payroll

- Manage the end-to-end payroll process, ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time.
- Set up current employees within the payroll system and maintain employee payroll records.
- Process timesheets, leave entitlements, payroll adjustments and employee terminations.
- Maintain employee payroll information, including tax declarations, superannuation and banking details.
- Ensure payroll complies with all relevant legislation, Modern Awards and company policies.
- Respond to payroll-related enquiries from employees and management.

General Administration

- Provide administrative support to Management as required.
- Assist with business projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Undertake general administration duties to support the wider business.

About You





- Previous experience in Human Resources and Payroll.
- A sound understanding of Fair Work legislation, Modern Awards and payroll compliance.
- Experience managing recruitment, onboarding and the employee lifecycle.
- Excellent organisational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive working relationships at all levels.
- A professional, confidential and approachable manner.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and payroll software.
- The ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
- A proactive attitude with a commitment to continuous improvement and delivering exceptional internal customer service.
