The role

We are seeking an accomplished and creative Interior Designer Mid-Level to join our Sydney studio. You will work closely with senior leaders and designers across a diverse portfolio including hospitality, retail, residential and hotels.

Our Interior Design team operate as an integral part of Buchan, contributing to large-scale architectural and interior commissions, as well as delivering stand-alone interior projects.

You will be involved across all project stages—from concept design through to construction and contract administration. This role suits a designer with a strong foundation who is continuing to grow their expertise in design leadership, project delivery and client engagement.

Key Responsibilities

Design

- Strong conceptual interior design ability with the capability to develop design ideas from concept through to completion.
- Excellent space planning, material selection, and FF&E; (Furniture, Fixtures & Equipment) specification skills.
- Good hand sketching and visual communication skills are an advantage.
- Develop 3D models, visualisations and presentations using Revit, Enscape and Adobe Creative Suite.
- Present interior design concepts,



material selections and design solutions to clients and stakeholders with clarity and confidence.
- Stay informed on design trends, from materials, finishes, lighting and workplace, hospitality, residential, or commercial interior solutions.

Documentation Coordination

- Strong design and documentation capability with a focus on quality outcomes.
- Solid understanding of interior detailing, joinery documentation, finishes schedules, and specification writing.
- Prepare and manage material palettes, finishes schedules, FF&E; selections, and product specifications.
- Sound knowledge of construction codes, standards, construction methods and buildability.
- Develop detailed and accurate interior design model and drawings directly within Revit while maintaining design intent.
- Sound knowledge of project coordination and interior design documentation processes.
- Collaborate with project teams, consultants and stakeholders to ensure design outcomes align with the original design vision and client objectives.
- Ability to use Revizto for coordination is an advantage.

Contract Administration

- Assist during Contract Administration period by responding to documentation queries.
- Assist in reviewing shop drawings, samples and material submissions to ensure compliance with design specifications and quality standards.
- Conduct site visits throughout the construction and fit-out process to monitor progress and ensure the design intent is maintained.
- Review installation quality and furniture and material selections for compliance with project documentation.
- Assist in identifying construction issues to resolve in collaboration with contractors, consultants and suppliers with the support of senior leaders.
- Assist with defect inspections, project handovers and post-occupancy reviews.

Project Management

- Coordinate procurement, cost and lead times for finishes, furniture, fixtures, lighting, and equipment where required.
- Conduct research into emerging materials, products, technologies, sustainable design solutions and industry best practices, applying this knowledge to projects.

- Keep up-to-date with industry trends, regulations, and standards to ensure compliance and innovation in project designs.
- Work in accordance with the business’ vision and values.

Qualifications & Requirements





- Bachelor Degree in Interior Architecture or Interior Design or Diploma in Interior Design.
- Minimum experience 5-7 yrs post degree preferably on large scale, complex projects.
- Must have experience in retail/mixed-use and/or residential.
- Proficiency in Revit/BIM and Enscape (essential) and understanding of BIM workflows.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD, SketchUp, and V-Ray. Rhino an advantage.
- Advanced skills in Adobe Creative Suite.
- Proven experience across commercial sectors such as clubs, retail, hospitality, high-rise residential, or mixed-use development.
- A creative mindset with a keen eye for detail and functionality.
- Good communication, collaboration and project management skills and the ability to engage confidently with clients and consultants.
- Knowledge of building codes, standards, regulations, and safety standards.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing project requirements and timelines. Work collaboratively across multiple concurrent projects
