The Early Invention Officer (EIO) provides direct early intervention to children and young people from refugee backgrounds who are at risk of, or in, contact with, the youth justice system to maximise their ongoing engagement with education. The EIO will work closely with the Greater Shepparton Secondary College wellbeing team and to engage with and provide support to students who may experience barriers to participation or be at risk at disengaging from education.

Position Context

This position reports to the Manager Community Services and will work closely with the Refugee Counselling Team. It is also expected that this position will work within the larger Primary Care Connect team and network with external organisations.

Key Selection Criteria

The following criteria must be met and addressed in applications for consideration for this position:

- Social Work Bachelor or equivalent, or a Certificate IV in Youth Work or equivalent
- Demonstrated experience working with children, young people and families from diverse backgrounds,



including those from refugee backgrounds and those who have experienced complex trauma.
- Demonstrated commitment to ethical practice, human rights and social justice.
- Demonstrated ability to apply culturally safe, trauma-informed and student-centred approaches to engagement, support, advocacy and early intervention.
- Proven ability to build respectful and effective relationships with children and young people who may be disengaged, distrustful of systems, or resistant to support.
- Ability to collaborate with teachers, wellbeing staff and school leadership while maintaining a student-centred advocacy role.
- Experience delivering early intervention and prevention responses.
- Demonstrated experience in case management and care coordination, including assessment, goal setting, action planning, review and referral pathways.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with schools, wellbeing teams, community services, settlement providers, mental health services and justice agencies.
- Highly developed interpersonal, communication, organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Medium to high level competency with IT applications such as MS Word, Excel,
