Legal Professional – Lawyer or Paralegal

Location: Geraldton, WA | Permanent part time

Regional Alliance West is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to supporting individuals and families experiencing disadvantage across the Midwest, Murchison and Gascoyne regions of Western Australia. With over 40 years of service, we have grown to deliver 11 unique programs with a committed team of over 30 staff and volunteers.

Operating across a vast region — from Geraldton to Exmouth, Leeman to Meekatharra — we work in some of the most remote and resource-challenged communities in the State. Many of these areas face significant social and economic pressures, including housing shortages, unemployment, and the rising cost of living.

Our mission is easy: to provide accessible, practical support that empowers individuals and strengthens communities. We offer outreach services, advocacy, and tailored programs that connect people with the resources they need to thrive.

Due to an internal transfer, we are looking for a dedicated and compassionate legal professional to join our team. While a qualified lawyer is preferred, there is scope for an individual with significant prior experience working in a legal or justice focused context to be considered for employment as a paralegal.

Key Responsibilities

· Provide legal advice, support and representation to individuals experiencing disadvantage

· Assist in the development and delivery of community legal education and information resources

· Identify and contribute to law and policy reform activities

· Appropriately document all work within the organisation’s data management system





· Collaborate with the organisation’s other teams and external stakeholders to provide wholistic support to the organisation’s clients

· Provide flexible, culturally sensitive support to the organisation’s clients

About You

You have a strong commitment to human rights and social justice and combine empathy with your professionalism. You bring a trauma-informed, client-centered approach and thrive in collaborative, community-focused environments.

Essential Criteria

- Degree in law, admission to practice in WA or significant prior experience working in a legal / justice focused position
- Demonstrated experience in, or knowledge of the main casework areas of the organisation, including family law and civil law
- Demonstrated experience in, or knowledge of regulatory and insurance requirements, and monitoring compliance and evaluation in legal practice
- Understanding of the economic and social issues affecting clients, including gender inequality, family and domestic violence, homelessness and poverty
- Demonstrated commitment to human rights and social justice
- Demonstrated ability to work respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds
- Outstanding written and oral communications skills
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast paced and changing environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Outlook, and Excel, and confidence in learning new systems and databases




- Willingness to travel within the organisation’s service areas The successful applicant must be able to obtain and maintain all mandatory clearances, certifications, and training listed below:
- National Police Clearance – current (within 3 months) and satisfactory criminal history screening
- Working With Children Check (WWCC) – valid for the duration of employment
- C-A driver’s licence

Desirable

- Experience with or understanding of community service organisations
- Experience working with clients from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse backgrounds
- Experience working with complex clients (including clients with a history of abuse, trauma, substance misuse, violence, mental health and psychiatric issues etc)
- Familiarity with the provision of trauma informed legal services
- Familiarity with the development and delivery of information resources and/or community education

Fitness for work

Applicants must be able to meet ‘fitness for work’ requirements, including completing a pre‑employment medical assessment to confirm capacity for long‑distance driving, regular travel for client visits, and computer‑based duties. This assessment will also include drug and alcohol testing.
