Maintenance Manager – Heavy Vehicle Fleet
Lead a High-Performing Maintenance Team | Major Kenworth Fleet | Senior Management Role
Are you an experienced Maintenance Manager with a passion for heavy vehicle safety, compliance, reliability, and people leadership?
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Maintenance Manager to oversee the maintenance and compliance of a major transport fleet comprising Kenworth prime movers and a mixed-brand trailer fleet. This is a key leadership position that plays an integral role in the overall success and profitability of the business.
About the Role
Reporting directly to senior management, you will be responsible for leading and developing a skilled maintenance team while ensuring the fleet is maintained to the highest standards of safety, reliability, presentation, and compliance.
This role requires a hands-on leader who can build strong relationships across all levels of the business, communicate effectively with drivers, workshop personnel, suppliers, and management, and drive a culture of continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a comprehensive workshop and maintenance team.
- Ensure all fleet maintenance activities exceed company standards and industry best practices.
- Maintain strict compliance with the Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL), Chain of Responsibility (CoR), and all relevant safety legislation.
- Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs to maximise vehicle availability and reliability.
- Manage workshop scheduling, repairs, servicing, and defect rectification.
- Monitor and manage maintenance budgets, parts inventory, and supplier performance.
- Drive a strong safety culture and ensure adherence to all Safe Work Procedures.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records,
compliance documentation, and reporting systems.
- Work closely with operations to minimise downtime and optimise fleet performance.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and cost efficiencies.
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience managing maintenance operations within a heavy transport environment.
- Robust knowledge of Kenworth prime movers, trailers, and heavy vehicle maintenance systems.
- Sound understanding of HVNL, Chain of Responsibility obligations, and heavy vehicle compliance requirements.
- Exceptional leadership and people management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Strong organisational and planning capabilities.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
- Trade qualification in diesel mechanics or a related discipline would be highly regarded.
- Experience with fleet maintenance software and workshop management systems.
