Internal expression of interest

- Temporary full-time (35 hours per week) prospect up to April 2027
- Based in Parramatta with hybrid working supported
- Clerk Grade 11/12, salary ranges from $154,231 up to $178,369 pa plus super

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced and strategic leader to drive evidence-based decision-making across some of NSW's most significant energy and net zero initiatives.

Reporting to the Director, you will lead the Strategic Data and Appraisal Team, overseeing the strategic assessment of policies, regulations and programs that support NSW's energy and net zero objectives.

You will apply advanced analytical techniques and economic appraisal methodologies to evaluate impacts, identify risks and opportunities, and provide trusted advice to senior executives and government decision-makers.

You will also play a critical role in strengthening the Department's data governance and analytics capability, ensuring that data is effectively managed, shared and leveraged to deliver strategic outcomes.

About You

You are a strategic thinker and influential leader with a strong background in data analytics, policy evaluation, economics or energy market analysis. You are passionate about using evidence to shape public policy and have the ability to translate complex technical information into clear, actionable insights.

You will bring

- Demonstrated leadership experience managing multidisciplinary analytical or policy teams.
- Strong experience in economic appraisal and cost-benefit analysis, ideally within government, infrastructure, energy or regulated sectors.
- Advanced analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex datasets and communicate findings to diverse audiences.
- Sound knowledge of data governance, data management,



privacy and information security principles.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to brief senior executives and decision-makers.
- Knowledge of Australia's energy sector, energy markets, decarbonisation initiatives or net zero policy frameworks will be highly regarded.

Essential Requirements – As detailed in the Role Description

- Qualifications or relevant experience in economics, mathematics/statistics or related discipline or equivalent experience.
- Experienced in applying and integrating new data governance, management and visualisation software (e.g. Microsoft Fabric, Microsoft Purview, Microsoft PowerBI, ArcGIS)
- Experienced in leading and promoting policy and program appraisal including cost benefit analysis
