The opportunity
This is a hands-on project support and research role with a strong focus on assisting your Team Leader and broader project team to successfully deliver event evaluation projects. You will support several projects at once and take responsibility for clearly defined tasks, including project coordination, research preparation, survey testing, fieldwork support, report writing and quality assurance.
We welcome applicants at different career stages. The role may suit an emerging researcher, a recent graduate with relevant applied experience, someone returning to the workforce, or a professional bringing transferable experience from government, consulting, evaluation, tourism, sport, events, marketing or another project-based environment.
The type of work will involve: -
- Support your Team Leader and project team in delivering event evaluation and market research projects.
- Assist with the preparation of project plans, research materials, surveys, meeting notes and client deliverables.
- Test surveys and research processes to ensure they are clear, accurate and ready for use.
- Help coordinate project tasks,
timelines and information across multiple projects.
- Review survey findings and other research information to identify the results that are most relevant to the project.
- Prepare clear tables, charts, presentation material and draft sections of client reports.
- Check that report content, charts, figures, labels, bases and source notes are accurate and consistent.
- Attend selected sporting events, festivals and other major events to support field research, including occasional evening, weekend or interstate work.
- Work collaboratively with consultants, analysts and research operations staff.
- Follow IER’s research quality, privacy, confidentiality and document-control requirements.
About You
- A relevant tertiary qualification in either market research, marketing, business, economics, social science, tourism, sport management, events, communications or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and accurately.
- Confidence working with numbers, spreadsheets, survey results and structured information.
- Excellent Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and a disciplined approach to checking your work.
- Strong organisation skills and the ability to manage several tasks and deadlines.
- A collaborative approach and a willingness to support others within a project team.
- Curiosity, initiative, reliability and the confidence to ask questions when something does not make sense.
- An interest in major events, tourism, sport, arts, culture or public-sector research.
- Experience with Qualtrics, Q, SPSS, Power BI or other research software would be advantageous but is not essential.
