Northern Health is seeking applications from motivated and suitably experienced clinical professionals to join the Legal Services team as Medico Legal Officer.
Northern Health is the major provider of acute, maternity, sub-acute, mental health, specialist, community and home-based services in Melbourne’s rapidly growing outer north.
Services are provided through our six main campuses:
Northern Hospital Epping, Broadmeadows Hospital, Bundoora Centre, Craigieburn and Mernda Community Hospitals Centres and Kilmore District Hospital. In addition, Mental Health Services are provided at Epping, Broadmeadows, Jacana, Preston, Mill Park, Mernda and Coburg.
About the Role
The Medico Legal Officer supports Northern Health and its staff participate in procedures undertaken by the Coroner’s Court, within the broader Quality and Medico Legal frameworks.
This role requires an individual with a clinical background, who can review and digest medical information and develop it into appropriate statements for medico legal purposes.
This non-legal role works within the Legal team and is responsible for preparing and delivering responses to all Coroner’s Court requests in accordance with legislation, and under guidance of the Northern Health Legal team and clinicians.
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Clinical experience in an acute patient care setting with the ability to understand and interpret medical records (including mental health records)
- Experience liaising with medical staff across the clinical practice areas of a major public health service
- Demonstrated experience preparing and submitting statements for coronial, medicol legal or other quality and safety processes
- Excellent writing and analytical skills to identify and organise information into a format appropriate for the purpose and audience
- A good understanding of the Victorian health quality and safety regulatory framework
