About the role

Apoyo Health Service is seeking compassionate and dedicated Mental Health Workers to join our team in Hobart, Tasmania. This is a casual position that offers flexibility whilst making a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals experiencing mental health challenges. As a Mental Health Worker, you will play a vital role in providing direct support and assistance to service users, helping them navigate their mental health journey with dignity and respect.

This position is fundamental to our commitment to delivering person-centred care and fostering recovery within our community.

Key responsibilities

1. Provide direct support and assistance to service users in managing their daily activities and mental health needs
2. Develop positive relationships with service users based on trust, respect and empathy
3. Support service users in implementing recovery plans and achieving their personal goals
4. Assist with engagement in therapeutic activities and community participation
5. Help service users develop coping strategies and practical life skills
6. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of service user interactions and progress
7. Communicate effectively with the multidisciplinary team regarding service user wellbeing and support needs
8. Promote service user independence, autonomy and social inclusion
9. Respond compassionately to crisis situations and escalate concerns appropriately
10. Contribute to a safe, supportive and non-judgmental environment

What we're looking for

1.



Genuine passion for supporting individuals with mental health challenges and lived experience understanding
2. Robust interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build rapport and trust
3. Patience, empathy and a non-judgmental approach to service user support
4. Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
5. Flexibility and adaptability in responding to diverse and changing needs
6. Sound knowledge of mental health conditions and recovery principles
7. Relevant qualifications or certifications in mental health support, community services or related fields (preferred but not essential)
8. Current First Aid and CPR certification or willingness to obtain
9. Working With Vulnerable People screening clearance or ability to obtain
10. Reliable transportation and ability to work across multiple locations as required
11. Strong organisational and time management skills
12. Commitment to confidentiality and professional boundaries
