This position will work with staff at all levels across Council providing safety advice, expertise and documentation to enable an effective and safe working environment and strong safety culture.

Join Hume City Council's established Safety Team as a Safety Business Partner, working alongside another Business Partner and two Safety Advisors to provide practical, in-person safety support across a diverse local government environment. This is an exciting time to join the team as we enter year two of a four-year safety maturity plan and continue implementing a refreshed safety framework focused on stronger risk ownership, better consultation, proactive support and practical safety outcomes. The role will partner with business areas to provide advice, coaching, incident investigation support, safety system improvements and subject matter expertise across key risk areas.

Our Safety Team is taking a practical, evidence-informed approach to safety. We are focused on helping leaders and teams understand how work is really done, whether critical controls are working in practice, and what needs to change to reduce risk. A key part of our maturity journey is strengthening psychosocial risk management through better work design, clearer expectations, respectful consultation, fair decision-making and early action on issues that affect people's health, safety and dignity at work. This role will suit someone who values genuine conversations, practical problem-solving and safety work that makes a real difference on the ground.

What you'll be doing:





ProvideSafetysupport and guidancetoyour identified businessareas across Councilto enable an effective and safe working environment and strong safety culture.This will involve the provision of best practice advice and coaching to theareason a diverse range of health and safety issues.

- Manage and provide advice onidentifiedportfolio areas which may include butarenot limited to; Psychosocial Health and Safety,Occupational Violence & Aggression,Emergency Management, Manual Handling,In-depth incident investigation,High Risk Work, Dangerous Goods and Hazardous SubstancesandSlips/Trips/Falls.Utilise statistics and data for the provision of detailed reports for Management and Council asrequiredwithin established timelines. Includingquarterlysafetyreporting andrisk review reports relating to your portfolio andstatistical trends from your partnered business area.
- Develop and present trainingresources andprograms that are aimed at educating staff in the importance of managing andeliminatingrisk and raising awareness of workplace safety.Training is to be specifically targeted to your business areas and safety portfolio.
- Provide feedback and coaching toSafetyAdvisors in relation to incident investigationsfrom theirbusiness areas.
- Collaborate and build rapport with stakeholders to proactivelyidentifyand implement safety and wellbeing actions to address any gaps or hazards.

The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role:

- Tertiary qualifications in OHSor Allied Healthor significant,demonstratedexperience working insafetyin a complex, multi-disciplinary environment.
- Demonstrated experience inleadingstrategicsafety programs and initiatives, utilising influencingskillsand collaboration.
- Extensive understanding of contemporary safety management systems and work health and safety compliance requirements.




- Proven ability to translate legislation and technical information into practical and workable solutions across a broad range ofhigh risksettings.
- Genuine appreciation and understanding ofsafetywithin a large local government whichprovidesa broad range of services to our community.
- A current and valid driver's licence.

Required Certifications & Qualifications:

We're open to a range of backgrounds. A qualification in Occupational Health and Safety, risk, allied health, human factors, psychology, organisational development or a related field will be well regarded, but equivalent experience will also be considered. Most importantly, we're looking for someone with strong judgement, curiosity, practical problem-solving skills and the ability to build trusted relationships across a complex organisation.
