Nurse Unit Manager – Perioperative Services

Full time Permanent | Bundaberg | Support of ANUM, CNS, RNs

$140K - $148K including Super + Amazing location in Bundaberg

Ready to Swap "Just a Nurse" for "The Nurse Who Runs the world"?

Let's be honest – you've done the hard yards. You've survived the chaos of busy theatre lists, trained the grads, sorted the roster dramas, and probably fixed more "urgent" printer issues than any clinician should have to. Now it's time someone put that experience to proper use.

We're on the hunt for a Nurse Unit Manager to lead Perioperative Services at a well-established day hospital in regional Queensland. This role has come up because the previous NUM smashed it so hard, they got promoted to Director of Nursing/GM. Big shoes, sure – but also a pretty outstanding sign of what's possible here.

This isn't a "sit in an office and never see a patient again" kind of leadership role either. You'll stay clinically switched on while stepping up to run the show, and you'll get genuine exposure to DON/GM responsibilities when they're away – because someone's got to keep the ship sailing straight.

About the Hospital:

This is a modern, multi-specialty day hospital with two theatres and a procedure room, handling everything from general surgery and endoscopy to ophthalmology, plastics, skin and vascular procedures. It's part of a larger national hospital group, so you get the backing and support of a big organisation, minus the "just a number" feeling. Think regional charm with genuine professional support behind you.

The Team You'll Be Leading

- Director of Nursing / General Manager
- You – Nurse Unit Manager
- ANUM
- Clinical Nurse Specialists
- Registered Nurses
- Support Team

What You'll Be Doing:

- Leading the day-to-day running of the perioperative unit (theatre efficiency, staffing, the whole show)
- Coaching and developing your team so they grow, not just survive
- Keeping quality, compliance and accreditation ticking along nicely
- Stepping into DON/GM duties when needed, because you're clearly the trusted second-in-charge
- Being the calm, capable presence when things get busy (which, let's be honest, they will)

About You:

- Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse
- Perioperative experience, ideally with some ANUM, team leader or NUM runs on the board
- You can run a busy list and still crack a joke at handover
- Solid people skills – you can manage a roster clash without starting World War III
- Genuinely keen to grow into senior leadership, not just collect a new title

Benefits:

- $140K - $148K including Super + Amazing location in Bundaberg
- Predictable day hospital hours – no overnight shifts
- 12 weeks paid parental leave for eligible employees
- Employee referral bonus
- Great discounts at a large variety of retailers including Coles & Woolworths
- Regional lifestyle perks – shorter commutes, better coffee prices, and actual free parking
