About The Role
As a Development Engineer, you'll be part of a supportive and experienced team within Council's Planning and Development Section, contributing to the assessment of development applications that help shape Townsville's future. Working alongside Senior Development Engineers and Development Engineers, you'll receive mentoring and hands‑on experience while building your knowledge of development assessment processes, planning legislation and Council requirements.
In this role, you'll assist with the assessment of low-risk development applications, respond to customer enquiries, and provide technical support to the Infrastructure Assessment Unit. This is an excellent opportunity for an emerging engineer to develop practical experience, gain exposure to the Planning Act 2016 and local planning frameworks, and contribute to delivering positive outcomes for the community.
About You
- Currently studying a Bachelor of Engineering
- A commitment to workplace safety and safe work practices
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
- Effective communication skills with a range of stakeholders
- Good organisational, prioritisation and time management skills
- A willingness to learn development assessment and planning processes
- An interest in infrastructure assessment and town planning principles
- The ability to work collaboratively and contribute positively to a team setting
- Developing knowledge of development applications and relevant legislation would be highly regarded
