We are looking for bright talent across several roles. If your specific role is not listed, but you feel that you may be a great fit for our company, we would still love to hear from you.

Product Certification & Compliance Lead

This senior technical leadership role is responsible for product safety, certification and regulatory compliance across the organisation. Combining strategic oversight with hands‑on involvement across product development, certification and compliance activities, you will work closely with Engineering, Product Management, Manufacturing, Quality, suppliers, testing laboratories and certification bodies to develop certification strategies, influence product design and ensure compliance requirements are embedded throughout the product development lifecycle.

Responsibilities

- Own and lead product safety, certification and regulatory compliance across the product portfolio.
- Develop certification strategies for new products and emerging technologies.
- Guide engineering teams in applying compliance‑by‑design principles throughout product development.
- Manage certification programmes, testing activities and relationships with certification bodies and testing laboratories.
- Provide technical leadership for hazardous area certification, including IECEx, ATEX and UL requirements.
- Support compliance activities for connected products, wireless technologies and smart lighting systems.
- Lead compliance governance, standards management and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support internal and external audits and maintain effective compliance systems across the business.
- Monitor changes to international standards and provide technical guidance to engineering and manufacturing teams.

Skills & Experience

- Degree in Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics or a related Engineering discipline.
- Extensive experience in product safety, certification and regulatory compliance.
- Demonstrated experience managing product certification programmes from concept through to market release.
- Strong understanding of electrical product safety standards and international certification processes.
- Experience working with certification bodies, testing laboratories and regulatory authorities.
- Excellent technical writing, communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to interpret complex standards and translate regulatory requirements into practical engineering solutions.

Highly Regarded

- Experience across several of the following areas:
- IECEx, ATEX, UL844 or the IEC 60079 series.
- EMC, CE, RCM, FCC, RED or other international approval frameworks.
- Connected products, wireless technologies or industrial IoT.
- DALI, D4i, Zhaga or other smart lighting ecosystems.
- Industrial, hazardous area or infrastructure products.
- ISO 9001 Quality Management systems, internal auditing and compliance governance.

Why Join Coolon

Join a company where engineering drives the business.

At Coolon, we combine advanced electronic engineering with robust manufacturing to develop lighting systems that perform reliably in some of the world’s harshest environments.

Product safety, innovation and technical excellence are at the heart of everything we do.

Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Coolon, a multi‑award‑winning Victorian manufacturer renowned for high‑performance LED lighting products across Architectural, Commercial, Industrial and Harsh‑Environment applications, is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our growing team.

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, backed by strong, practical engineering fundamentals.

10+ years of experience in mechanical design for industrial products and integrated electromechanical systems.

High proficiency in 3D CAD and design documentation (NX preferred). If you are coming from another CAD environment,

that is fine – as long as you are willing to transition quickly and model in a way that will not make your future‑self ask, “Who did this?”

Deep understanding of manufacturing processes and fabrication methods, including die casting, plastic injection moulding, aluminium extrusion, machining, sheet metal fabrication and rapid prototyping.

Strong grasp of materials, chemical compatibility and surface treatments, especially for products that live in environments where nature and physics routinely team up against us.

Ability to design for environmental resilience across hazardous, marine, architectural and industrial applications.

Proven ability to work independently, prioritise effectively and deliver thoughtful engineering outcomes – calm, focused, and quietly impressive.

Meticulous attention to detail, paired with clear, organised documentation that keeps teams aligned and surprises to a minimum.

Team-oriented mindset, with experience mentoring junior engineers in a constructive, confidence‑building way.

Leadership qualities welcomed but not essential – quiet competence still counts as leadership in our book.

Responsibilities

- Take full ownership of mechanical design for industrial lighting products, from sketch to manufacturable masterpiece.
- Contribute to project planning, design reviews, risk assessments and key technical decisions.
- Design products that withstand extreme temperatures, dust, moisture, vibration, mechanical shock and other harsh condition tests.
- Work closely with the engineering and product development teams to ensure mechanical elements integrate seamlessly.
- Consider everyone impacted by your design: from toolmaker and raw material suppliers to production assembly and the end user.
- Make installation easy and intuitive; the end‑user experience is the real test.
- Trust data, not vibes – commit every form of product violence in the name of science.
- Produce human‑readable drawings and documentation.
- Collaborate with Production and QC when things go sideways – designs evolve.
- Speak your idea out loud – engineering prefers noise.
- Remember that every design that leaves the building carries our name – make it proud and professional.
- Do not dress industrial products like a rugged cowboy; they can be beautiful and inspiring.

Why Coolon

At Coolon, you are not just joining another engineering company – you are stepping into a place where advanced engineering and sharp, purposeful design meet in the real world. What you create here becomes something people rely on.

Our in‑house R&D; labs and manufacturing facilities give you the freedom to design, test, push limits, break things strategically, and refine your work until it is worthy of the Coolon badge.

If you have ever wanted end‑to‑end control of your craft, this is where you get it.

Please note: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Senior Embedded Software Engineer

- Develop software interfaces that integrate with wireless communication stacks.
- Implement industrial and lighting‑specific communication protocols (DMX/RDM, DALI).
- Design and integrate distributed communication and control architectures.
- Develop TCP/UDP‑based and custom networking protocols across the embedded OSI stack.
- Design and embed signal processing methods and control algorithms.

Requirements

- Proven experience delivering complex firmware projects for embedded systems (ARM‑core MCUs or wireless SoCs preferred).
- Advanced skills in embedded software architecture, system debugging and performance profiling.
- Strong proficiency in C/C++, RTOS (FreeRTOS, Zephyr), Linux and hardware‑software interfacing.
- Solid grasp of embedded design patterns, algorithms and data structures.
- Experience implementing or interfacing with wireless communication stacks (Bluetooth Mesh, Thread, LoRa, proprietary).
- Deep understanding of digital and analog electronics and low‑level peripheral interfacing.
- Familiarity with bootloaders and reliable OTA (over‑the‑air) update mechanisms.
- Hands‑on experience with networking and cloud integration (MQTT, WebSocket) is a plus.
- Comfortable using modern collaboration tools (Git, Jira or equivalent).
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electronics or related fields.

Why Join Coolon

At Coolon, you’ll be part of a company that blends advanced engineering with inspired design. Our in‑house R&D; labs and manufacturing facilities are among the best in the industry, giving you the rare opportunity to develop, test and see your work become real products.
