Inland Rail is the largest and most significant nation building project in Australia ‘s history. It will support the nation’s growth and prosperity, improve supply chain resilience and efficiency and better link businesses, manufacturers and producers to national and global markets.

Inland Rail is now calling for a dynamic and experienced Regional Director to spearhead the strategic direction of the program in Northern NSW.

About the opportunity

The Regional Director Northern NSW provides leadership and strategic direction on all stages of the Inland Rail Program in Northern New South Wales. This role reports to the project Executive, North of Narromine, and is an integral member of the North of Narromine Leadership Team.

This role is accountable for all facets of the NSW projects north of Narromine including obtaining preliminary approvals, procurement to execution of contracts, and delivery against approved business objectives within the constraints of scope, time and budget.

Managing a diverse team through all stages of the project lifecycle from planning and approvals to operational hand over, the role leads executive decision making of the Northern NSW region’s specific issues and opportunities.

Successful execution of this role will require strong collaboration and consultation with internal and external stakeholders. Internally, this role will engage heavily with the executive leadership team, Regional and Area Directors, Program Directors, Project Controls, and Business Services/Finance. This role has several direct and indirect reports, including multiple Area Director and Delivery Director Rail .

This role will hold accountability for engaging and managing performance of key contracting parties and consultants. The Regional Director Northern NSW will also lead relationships with the Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC ), key NSW State Agencies such as the Transport for NSW, Local Governments, private industry developers and community organisations.

Critical for this role is the ability to provide accurate and timely advice to senior executives,



as well as critically analyse data and information, weighing up competing priorities and positions, to ensure best-for-Program outcomes.

About you

The successful candidate will exhibit exceptional leadership skills to effectively guide project teams and engage in negotiations with external stakeholders, contractors, and consultants. Their primary focus will be on prioritising and delivering projects punctually, meeting designated cost and quality benchmarks. The incumbent will be responsible for comprehensive reporting on project status, including progress, risks, barriers, budget, and forecasts. Reporting methods will encompass regular written reports and briefings to the IRPL Executive, Shareholders, and the IRPL Board as necessary.

You will be able to demonstrate:

- Extensive project management experience in a multi-disciplinary program of works environment.
- Ability to establish business plans, goals, objectives, and strategies that complement the overall direction of a multi-functional service Program, including a demonstrated competence in developing and meeting key business/ performance objectives.
- Developed communications, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of and demonstrated capability in financial management at a senior management level.
- Experience in developing, negotiating, and managing commercial service contracts.
- Leading, organising, developing, and working with multi-disciplinary teams, together with an ability to interact and build strong working relationships at senior levels with providers or infrastructure construction maintenance services.
- Driver’s license – class C
- Tertiary qualifications in civil engineering or equivalent qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to work successfully across a diverse stakeholder group including the private sector, public sector special interest groups, and Federal Government sectors.
