Role Description The Pharmacist Intern role at NSW Health is an on-site internship located in the Greater Sydney Area. Interns support registered pharmacists in dispensing medications, preparing prescriptions, and ensuring safe and accurate medication use. Daily tasks include reviewing medication orders, assisting with patient counseling under supervision, and participating in medication reconciliation and clinical ward rounds where applicable.

The role involves maintaining accurate records, complying with relevant legislation and policies, and contributing to quality improvement activities within the pharmacy department.



Interns also engage in ongoing learning, attend educational sessions, and collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to provide patient-centered care.

Qualifications

Currently enrolled in or recently completed an accredited pharmacy degree program and eligible for pharmacist internship registration.

Strong foundational knowledge of pharmacology, therapeutics, and medication safety principles.

Ability to dispense medications accurately, interpret prescriptions, and follow clinical guidelines under supervision.

Effective communication and interpersonal skills for working with patients, carers, pharmacists, and broader healthcare teams.

Good organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks in a busy clinical environment.

Commitment to qualified ethics, patient confidentiality, and adherence to NSW Health policies and relevant legislation.

Willingness to learn, accept feedback, and participate in training, audits, and quality improvement initiatives.

Basic digital literacy, including use of electronic medical records and pharmacy information systems.

Previous clinical placement, hospital or community pharmacy experience is beneficial but not mandatory.
