Role Description The Pipeline Encroachment Assessment Engineer is a full-time, hybrid role based in Sydney, NSW, with flexibility for part-time work from home. This role is responsible for assessing third-party activities and developments near pipeline corridors to identify and manage encroachment risks. Day-to-day tasks include reviewing engineering drawings and land development plans, performing technical calculations, and evaluating the impact of proposed works on pipeline integrity and safety.
The engineer will prepare assessment reports, risk evaluations, and mitigation recommendations, and collaborate with internal engineering, integrity, and operations teams, as well as external stakeholders such as developers,
contractors, and regulators. The role also involves supporting field inspections as required, maintaining compliance with relevant standards and regulations, and contributing to continuous improvement of encroachment assessment processes and tools.
Qualifications
Strong skills in pipeline engineering and pipeline design for onshore pipeline systems.Experience with pipeline integrity assessment, including corrosion mechanisms and integrity management principles.Ability to perform technical calculations related to stress, pressure, and structural interactions affecting pipelines.Knowledge of applicable standards and regulations governing pipeline safety and land use (e.g., AS/NZS, API, or similar).Bachelor’s degree in engineering (e.g., Mechanical, Civil, Pipeline, or related discipline).Experience in risk assessment, hazard identification, and mitigation planning for linear infrastructure.Competence in using engineering and mapping tools (e.g., CAD, GIS, or similar) to review plans and corridor layouts.Effective written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and stakeholder engagement.Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a hybrid environment, managing multiple assessments and deadlines.Previous experience in pipeline operations, construction, or encroachment management is beneficial.
