About the role

We are a growing Queensland-based civil engineering consultancy seeking an experienced Principal Designer (Civil) to join its team.

This is a hands-on technical design role suited to an experienced civil designer who enjoys producing high-quality engineering deliverables, managing projects and building long-term client relationships.

You’ll have the autonomy to deliver projects from concept through to construction documentation while contributing to the continual improvement of our design standards, systems and workflows.

Your responsibilities will include

- Deliver civil infrastructure design projects from concept through to construction documentation.
- Prepare and review engineering drawings, reports, specifications and supporting documentation.
- Produce practical, constuctable and cost-effective engineering solutions.
- Manage project delivery, programs and client expectations with a high degree of autonomy.
- Act as the primary point of contact for clients throughout project delivery.
- Coordinate project stakeholders, approvals and design inputs.
- Develop and improve CAD standards, 12d workflows, templates, systems and design tools.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance design quality, consistency and efficiency.
- Mentor graduate engineers and designers where appropriate.
- Ensure designs comply with relevant Australian Standards, Austroads Guides, Queensland legislation and local authority requirements.

Skills and experience The successful applicant will ideally possess:

Essential

- Bachelor of Engineering Technology, Bachelor of Engineering (3-year equivalent), or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering.
- Approximately 15+ years' experience delivering civil infrastructure design projects.
- Advanced proficiency in 12d Model.
- Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD.
- Demonstrated ability to independently produce complete project deliverables from concept through to construction documentation.
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects and client relationships with minimal supervision.
- Strong experience in road, stormwater and municipal infrastructure design.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Current Australian Driver Licence.

Preferred

- Demonstrated project management experience.




- Demonstrated client relationship management experience.
- Experience developing engineering systems, standards, templates, workflows and design tools.
- Experience mentoring graduate engineers and designers.
- Experience working with Queensland local government and Transport and Main Roads standards.
- Experience in one or more specialist civil infrastructure disciplines, such as stormwater drainage, traffic engineering, road lighting, traffic signals, active transport or transport planning.
