The opportunity
Tranex Power is seeking a diligent and commercially minded Project Controller to take ownership of project cost control, reporting and financial administration across our portfolio of renewable energy and infrastructure projects.
This is an important role within the business. We need someone who will genuinely own the project controls function—maintaining accurate cost information, enforcing discipline around purchasing and cost allocation, identifying issues early, and ensuring our project teams have reliable information to make decisions.
You will work closely with Project Managers, site teams, commercial staff, payroll, accounts and senior management. Your job will be to make sure every project has a clear and current financial position: what has been budgeted, committed, spent, claimed, paid and forecast.
Key responsibilities
- Establish and maintain project budgets and cost codes within the company’s project management and accounting systems.
- Allocate project budgets across labour, plant, materials, subcontractors and other cost categories.
- Prepare, issue and maintain purchase orders in accordance with approved project budgets and procurement processes.
- Track committed, actual and forecast project costs.
- Review and receipt supplier and subcontractor invoices against the correct project, purchase order and cost code.
- Identify incorrect, duplicate or unsupported project charges before they are processed.
- Review payroll and timesheet costs and ensure labour is accurately allocated to the correct projects and cost codes.
- Maintain visibility over subcontractor commitments, variations, invoices and payment status.
- Assist with the preparation, lodgement and forecasting of progress claims.
- Track submitted, certified, invoiced and received project revenue.
- Maintain project cash-flow forecasts, including the timing of claims, receipts and major project payments.
- Compare actual and forecast performance against approved budgets.
- Identify cost overruns, budget shortfalls, uncommitted costs and potential savings.
- Flag financial risks and discrepancies early, rather than waiting until month-end.
- Prepare and distribute weekly project controls reports covering:
- Budget versus actual costs
- Cost commitments
- Cost to complete
- Estimate at completion
- Labour performance
- Procurement and purchase-order status
- Progress claims and cash flow
- Variations and commercial risks
- Support Project Managers in preparing accurate project forecasts.
- Assist with project establishment, monthly reporting and financial close-out.
- Continuously improve project controls processes, reporting formats and cost discipline across the business.
About you
You will be methodical, commercially aware and comfortable taking responsibility for the accuracy of project information. You do not simply enter data—you question inconsistencies, follow up missing information and make sure issues are resolved.
Ideally, you will have:
- Previous experience in project controls, project accounting, job costing, commercial administration or a similar project-based role.
- Experience within construction, infrastructure, engineering, energy or another project-driven industry.
- A practical understanding of project budgets, purchase orders, commitments, actual costs, accruals and forecasting.
- Experience supporting payment claims and project cash-flow forecasting.
- Strong Excel and data-management skills.
- Experience working with project management, ERP or job-costing systems.
- High attention to detail and a strong commitment to accuracy.
- The confidence to follow up Project Managers, supervisors, suppliers and internal teams when information is incomplete.
- The ability to manage competing deadlines across multiple active projects.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- A proactive mindset and a genuine desire to take ownership of the function.
Formal qualifications in accounting, finance, construction management, project management or a related discipline would be beneficial, but practical project-controls and job-costing experience will be valued highly.
What success looks like
Within this role
- Project costs are allocated accurately and kept current.
- Purchase orders are raised before costs are incurred.
- Project Managers have reliable weekly cost and forecast information.

- Payroll, supplier invoices and subcontractor costs are correctly assigned.
- Cost overruns and forecast risks are identified early.
- Management can trust the project reporting without needing to reconstruct the numbers.
