About The Role

Reporting to the Manager, Bridging & Preparatory Studies, this role works as part of the VCE VM team to provide support and leadership to improve the employment and training participation and outcomes of young people within the VCE Vocational Major (VCE VM) program.

The position provides high-level career and pathway advice while maintaining the strictest confidence of information regarding student personal records, examination content and other confidential materials.

Working collaboratively across the Foundation Directorate and with internal and external stakeholders, the role supports positive pathways into further education, training and employment.

This position suits someone with strong career guidance, stakeholder engagement and communication skills who is passionate about supporting positive education, training and employment outcomes for young people.

This is a 12 months fixed-term opportunity.

What You'll Do

- Apply judgement and decision-making skills to manage all aspects of career and pathway support for students, adapting techniques to different situations




- Coordinate Structured Workplace Learning (SWL), work experience and placement activities for VCE VM students
- Participate in VCE VM team meetings, providing updates, suggestions and relevant information on career and study pathways for students
- Work collaboratively across the Foundation Directorate, contract manager areas and other departments to develop appropriate pathways and programs for eligible young people
- Provide students with specialist career guidance and pathway advice on further study and employment options
- Monitor and track student progress, destinations and completion outcomes to support Student Pathways guidance
- Develop and maintain relationships with schools, industry, community organisations, government agencies and universities to support referral pathways and positive student outcomes
- Plan and deliver work preparation, study skills and personal development workshops
- Support VCE VM staff and students with the operational functions of the Student Representative Voice Committee
- Manage and edit the publication of the VCE VM Newsletter

What You'll Bring

- Relevant tertiary qualifications in career guidance, student welfare, youth work, vocational counselling, education or a related field, or lesser formal qualifications with significant field experience
- Demonstrated experience and specialist knowledge in providing career and pathway planning support for young people, particularly early school leavers
- Demonstrated ability to work with young people who may be at risk and have barriers to employment and training
- Demonstrated written communication skills and computer literacy, including word processing and basic database skills
- Demonstrated understanding of New Apprenticeships, traineeships and labour market opportunities for young people in Melbourne's northern region
- Exceptional networking, negotiation and interpersonal skills, with demonstrated experience liaising with community, government and industry stakeholders




- High-level knowledge of working with minors, confidentiality, the Privacy Act and Child Protected Standards
- Demonstrated ability to maintain systems and processes that support quality assurance, record keeping and monitoring activities
- Knowledge of the structure and objectives of Student Pathways, LLENs and other relevant government initiatives
- Demonstrated commitment to Occupational Health and Safety, Anti-Discrimination, Quality Assurance and Continuous Improvement principles
