Rheinmetall NIOA Munitions Pty Ltd (RNM), a joint venture between Rheinmetall Waffe Munitions and NIOA Pty Ltd operate a state of the art forging and manufacturing facility in Maryborough QLD that produces artillery shell cases and other munitions-related products for supply to defence.

What are we looking for?

As a Project Quality Engineer, you will be primarily responsible for supporting the Project Manager in developing Product and Process verification strategies using various CAI platforms and developing various metrology solutions and inspection programs for introducing new product to the production environment. You will be responsible for developing the product specific Quality Control Plan, identifying and eliminating process wastes and proposing lean practices and process reconfigurations to aid improving the profit margin on various processes across the artillery shell manufacturing workflow.

Key Accountabilities

- Create a product specific Quality Plan in compliance to customer requirements and delivery specifications and in accordance with contractual obligations.

- Execute and collaborate with external resources for QA project support and testing requirements.

- Comply with product related and contractual QA requirements related to project and ongoing reporting, functions and data collection activities.

- Align and implement product Technical Data Pack requirements and process integration with Project Engineers and Project Manager for successful product production outcomes.

- Develop final inspection and test plans and integrate into the existing Quality system.

- Compile statistical data, summarise, and prepare draft reports on quality assurance findings for review and approval by the Project Manager and RNM Quality Manager.

- Contribute to ensuring the ongoing effectiveness and efficiency of the QMS in accordance with relevant regulatory, accreditation & customer requirements.



Monitor the performance of the QMS and propose appropriate responses as necessary to any lagging or negative leading indicators.

- Develop work instructions, assessments and training material to upskill the quality team on quality processes including the use of CAD Solidworks and Novacam to establish and maintain desired team skillset within the quality team.

- Maintain effective configuration control to ensure conformance to contractual requirements.

- As approved by the Project Manager, plan and implement projects by applying practical project management to define project scope, goals and deliverables, define resources and steps whilst keeping stakeholders informed resulting in positive project outcomes.

- Work with the process engineers to lead and support a team of processing staff to implement a quality or improvement process with approval from the RNM Operations Manager RNM Quality Manager.

- Works pro-actively reviewing and evaluating new quality processes for best practice effectiveness of the quality management system and works in collaboration with the RNM Quality Manager and Process Engineers to implement processes and improvements including final inspection and test plans

- Ongoing support and execution of initial setup in ongoing serial production environment.

- Provide inputs to product quality issues including the NCR process, the collection of samples for testing, investigating, and reporting upon out-of-spec/off base line results.

- Collaborate with quality and operational staff and provide inputs to improving quality utilising specialised technology of CMM/portable metrology

- Contribute and assist in the development and implementation of LEAN & Continuous Improvement initiatives. Apply lean manufacturing/process improvement processes to investigate, analyse or achieve improved quality efficiency or effectiveness in accordance with legislation.

Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience

Minimum:





- Mechanical/technical engineering degree with aligned quality industry/occupational experience

- Intermediate project management and process improvement experience

Preferred:

- Experience in quality plan development in a manufacturing environment.

- Experience in CAD using Solidworks or similar.

- Demonstrated experience working within an ISO accredited quality management system.

- Working knowledge of ISO9001:2015.

- Competitive or Lean Manufacturing certification.

- NDT experience and certifications
