Maintenance Staff are responsible to the Principal through the Head of Business Operations and Administration through the Director of Facilities, and under the day-to-day direction of the Maintenance Manager or his delegate.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintenance Staff are responsible for maintaining a high-quality level of internal and external general maintenance for all College buildings and infrastructure, including grounds. Maintenance staff are responsible for assisting the various trades as required. Maintenance staff are required to abide by the College’s Staff Code of Conduct and to support the Christian ethos of the College.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintenance Staff will work collaboratively to foster a positive, harmonious team environment and provide maintenance and trade service support to the school across various campus buildings, infrastructure, and general facilities and activities. The role focuses on a wide variety of building repairs and maintenance, gardening and landscaping, workshop management, and assisting with contractors and third-party providers.
Maintenance staff are required to, but not limited to, perform the following tasks:
- ensure WHS guidelines and policies are followed at all times
- assist with maintenance of College buildings, grounds, plant, equipment and furnishings to a quality standard
- assist with ensuring the grounds, including garden beds, plantings and playing areas, are kept safe, clean and tidy
- complete other tasks assigned from time to time and assist other members of the maintenance team, external contractors and school staff
- react to change productively and complete tasks as assigned in a timely manner
- maintain school equipment and tools associated with the maintenance department
- provide assistance and support for event/function set-ups and break-downs
- provide general labouring tasks as required
- work flexible schedule so that work can be performed around the operational needs of the College, including out of school hours for events such as, but not limited to:
- Fair and Open Day
- Speech Day
- Parent-Teacher Nights
- any other appropriate duties as directed
SKILLS AND EXPECTATIONS
- To be supportive of College aims, initiatives, policies and practices
- To be familiar, and comply, with the School’s Code of Conduct and Staff Manual guidelines
- To possess a current full Driver’s Licence and First Aid qualification
- To exhibit professional and personal integrity
- To demonstrate effective interpersonal communication skills and experience in dealing with staff, students, parents, visitors regarding facilities and maintenance matters
- To work independently with initiative and be able to work as a team member
- To be physically able to contribute to an active maintenance department when needed - ability to lift 25 kg, ability to walk a reasonable distance, climb up or bend down and work, etc
- To demonstrate sensitivity when working with people from diverse backgrounds, and appreciate the appropriate use of humour in the workplace
