ASCO's core business is providing materials management and logistics services to the Oil & Gas industry. We specialise in delivering a wide range of integrated solutions and specialist services across all areas of logistics, materials, fuels and bulks, marine and environmental services.

One of ASCO’s principal activities is supporting decommissioning projects for our Oil & Gas customers. Through our environmental service line, we provision both offshore and onshore radiation detection services. We have extensive knowledge of oil and gas waste streams and years of experience in identifying and decontaminating hazardous materials, including Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials (NORM).

Due to ASCO's growth in this market segment, an exciting opportunity exists for a dynamic, highly motivated, experienced and proactive Radiation Safety Officer to ensure strict compliance with the Western Australian Radiation Safety Act 1975, Work Health ans Safety (Mines) Regulations 2022, ARPANSA standards, and NOPSEMA offshore safety requirements. Although most of our current projects are based off the North West Coast of Western Australia, we encourage applications from suitably qualified candidates nationwide.

Remuneration: this is subject to experience/qualification.

Type of Contract: we can offer Fixed Term contract employment or Contractor Engagement.

What your role at ASCO will look like:

- Conduct comprehensive radiation surveys and NORM contamination monitoring of recovered subsea equipment including Christmas trees, manifolds, flexible risers,



and topside structures using calibrated detection equipment
- Perform monitoring of completed recovery operations including quayside and vessel-based contamination assessments and integrity checks
- Supervise subsea flexible shearing operations involving NORM and gas monitoring during controlled hydraulic/mechanical cutting of subsea equipment
- Monitor recovered completion equipment during removal from subsea wells, ensuring safe handling and contamination control during recovery and inspection phases.
- Establish baseline radiation levels, designate work area boundaries, and implement area designations (supervised/controlled areas) based on dose rates and contamination levels.
- Manage personnel exposure monitoring using personal electronic dosimeters (PEDs) and maintain dose records.
- Maintain NORM waste registers, identify and label NORM-contaminated materials, and coordinate safe transport to licensed disposal facilities.
- Exercise stop-work authority for any NORM or gas-related task where radiation, contamination or gas risks are not adequately controlled, and escalate concerns to the Operations Manager and Vessel Master
- Implement and uphold the Offshore NORM & HAZMAT Management Plan in all offshore radiation and contamination control activities
- Prepare Radiation Management Plans and support WA Radiological Council notification and permit applications
- Coordinate controlled waste tracking through Controlled Waste Tracking System (CWTS) and manage waste manifests per ADG and IMDG codes
- Provide technical input to project HSE (Health, Safety, Setting) meetings and incident investigations
- Provide technical advice to vessel master,



operations manager, and project team on NORM procedures and safety protocols

Minimum Qualifications

- Radiation Safety Officer or Radiation Protection Supervisor Qualification
- Knowledge of Australian radiation legislation and offshore safety requirements
- Significant experience in radiation safety in offshore or remote environments
- BOSIET and MIST maritime safety certification
- Class 7 Dangerous Goods (Road and Sea) certifiation
- Benzene Exposure training
- Mercury and Benzene Awareness
- Escape Chute Training

Desirable Qualifications/Competencies

- Strong safety culture

- First Aid at work
- Experience in the oil and gas industry
