Primary objective
Provide a 24-hour Medical Imaging Service to the clients of the Alice Springs hospital, the Central Australian Health Service, Community
Health Centres and Private Practitioners as requested.
Context statement
Alice Springs Hospital is a 183-bed teaching hospital with a strong focus on Indigenous and remote health as a result of such a dispersed population. Over two thirds of acute admissions are Aboriginal people both from town and remote communities. Consequently, cultural,
language and communication skills are an important component of our service delivery.
Key duties and responsibilities
- Provide medical imaging services at the Alice Springs Hospital as required to assist with the diagnosis and treatment of patients.
Participate in the 24-hour rostering pattern which includes shift work and/or on-call.
- Recognise the hospitals ongoing commitment to Quality Assurance through personal accountability for standards of care and participate in the department’s quality program.
- At all times adhere to safe work practices and the department radiation policy as recommended by the department to reduce the likelihood of accidents and unnecessary radiation exposure.
- Liaise with Medical Officers, appropriate hospital staff and/or radiologist to clarify referral request details or to ascertain relevant clinical history to ensure that the most appropriate procedure is performed.
- Perform patient registration functions for the purpose of radiology procedures ensuring data is correctly entered into the hospital information system.
- Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.

Selection criteria
Essential
- Qualifications allowing for registration of the Australian Society of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy (ASMIRT) and registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Extensive experience/knowledge in the various fields of Radiography (Special procedures, General Radiography, Theatre and Mobile
Work, Trauma and Emergency Radiography).
- Ability to work as a member of a team within a cross-cultural environment.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and communicate effectively with both clients and staff from a diverse range of cultural and social backgrounds.
- Good knowledge of general practices and procedures including Workplace Health and Safety and radiation safety.
- Willingness to participate in continuous professional development and assist in the ongoing accreditation process of the department to achieve a quality service.
- Ability to work independently with strong clinical judgement.
- Ability to supervise and mentor junior staff
Desirable
- Experience in Computerised Tomography and/or Mammography is advantageous.
