Overview Support a Hobart local council as a Rates Officer. Full‑time hours, with an immediate start through July 2027! McArthur is seeking an experienced Rates Officer to support general accounting tasks and reports related to rates, and deliver excellence in customer service to the City's customers and ratepayers. Full‑time position, casual rate of $46.70 per hour (+ Superannuation), located in central Hobart.

Key Responsibilities - Undertake general accounting tasks and prepare correspondence and reports related to rating and valuation matters, including journals, correspondence, rate calculations, debt recovery and, as required, summons/legal action.

- Provide excellent customer service as the first point of contact for Council Rates, managing general rating, property, valuation and local government election inquiries.
- Build strong, collaborative working relationships to influence effective customer service delivery and outcomes and a positive culture.
- Use contemporary debt management, negotiate, administer and maintain outstanding rates arrangements with rate payers and manage outstanding rates to a minimum.
- Conduct property inspections and undertake audits of the vacant land in the Hobart municipal area.
- Review and process enrolment forms and maintain records to enable production of the General Manager's Electoral Roll.




- Issue and authorise Sl 32 Rate Certificates and assist with street numbering and providing the addressee for recent properties in the Hobart municipal area.
- Complete building lists for lodgement to the Valuer‑General. Key Criteria - Advanced interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to follow Council policy and legislative rating requirements in a confidential manner.
- Proven ability to work independently and effectively as part of a team and contribute to a positive team.
- High proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office suite and demonstrated property and rating system.
- Demonstrated organisational skills with an ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
- Well‑developed verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare correspondence, memorandums, documents and statutory forms and to respond to customers.
- Excellent problem‑solving and negotiation skills with demonstrated ability to apply contemporary debt management techniques. To be considered for this opportunity, the successful candidate must be able to acquire a clear Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check.
