This is a permanent, full time vacancy.

About The Role The role of the Recreation Officer is to develop, implement and facilitate recreation programs and activities, which provide maximum opportunity for participation by young people and use of Centre facilities, and as far as possible, cater for a wide range of interests and tailored to different cohorts of young people. Programs should be developed with an opportunity for input by young people, to promote a sense of responsibility, motivation of recreation interests and a degree of self-management, which is consistent with Departmental recreation policy. This role is based at Banksia Hill Detention Centre but there may requirements for the successful applicant to be placed at other Youth Detention Centres within the department.

Suitability Requirements

Through the recruitment process, we will be looking for candidates who can demonstrate skills, experience and attributes in relation to the following: Achieve Results – You must be able to deliver results, produce and achieve outcomes, meet targets and accomplish goals.

Builds Productive Relationships – You must be able to maintain effective working relationships, build rapports and promote teamwork and collaboration.

Communicates and Influences Effectively – You must be able to engage well in both written and verbal communication with a wide range of stakeholders.

Experience in working with young people – You must have demonstrated experience in working effectively with Young People from diverse backgrounds and have a strong background in mentoring, guiding and supporting Young People.

Recreation and/or event co-ordination and organisation – You must be able to demonstrate experience and ability to coordinate engaging programs, activities and events.

Eligibility In accordance with the National Child Safety Principles, people who work directly with children and young people,



you must have a current Working with Children Check or be able to successfully apply for one to be eligible for appointment to this position. To be eligible for appointment to permanent positions in the West Australian Public Sector you must be an Australian citizen or have permanent resident status in Australia.
