Role Description
The Governance Officer is a part time, on-site role based in Newcastle, NSW. This position is responsible for supporting strong governance practices across Embrace People & Place, including coordinating board and committee meetings, preparing agendas and minutes, and maintaining accurate governance records and registers. The Governance Officer will help ensure compliance with relevant policies, legal obligations, and reporting requirements, while supporting risk management and accountability processes. Day-to-day tasks include drafting and reviewing governance documents,
supporting policy development and updates, managing documentation related to contracts or partnerships, and assisting with internal communication on governance matters. The role works closely with the Board and Executive Teams to promote transparent decision-making and good governance.
Qualifications
- Experience in governance support or high-level administration, including coordinating meetings, preparing agendas and minutes, and maintaining governance records.
- Knowledge of compliance and regulatory requirements relevant to not-for-profit or community sectors.
- Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
- Excellent attention to detail and written and verbal communication skills, including clear, accurate document drafting, including board reports and draft policies.
- Capability to build positive working relationships with board members, colleagues, partners, and community stakeholders.
- Proficiency with office software and collaboration tools (e.g., document management systems, spreadsheets, and presentation tools).
- Experience in the not-for-profit, social enterprise, or community services sector is highly regarded.
