Role Description The Scientist role at echiDNA Pathology Labs is a full-time, on-site position based in Herston, QLD. This role is responsible for performing and validating reproductive genetic and microbiome assays, following standardized laboratory protocols and quality management systems. The Scientist will prepare and process specimens, operate and maintain laboratory instrumentation, and accurately record, analyze, and interpret test results within agreed turnaround times.

Daily tasks include contributing to method development and optimization, troubleshooting technical issues, and participating in internal audits and continuous improvement initiatives. The Scientist will collaborate with laboratory colleagues,



support communication of findings to clinical stakeholders where appropriate, and maintain strict compliance with regulatory, safety, and privacy requirements.

Qualifications

Strong foundation in molecular biology and genetics, with practical experience in techniques such as PCR/qPCR, DNA/RNA extraction, and next-generation sequencing workflows.

Competence in clinical laboratory operations, including sample handling, biosafety practices, quality control, and adherence to NATA or equivalent accreditation standards.

Ability to analyze and interpret complex datasets using appropriate statistical tools, laboratory information systems (LIS), and basic bioinformatics or data analysis software.

Effective written and verbal communication skills for documenting procedures, reporting results, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and clinical partners.

Demonstrated commitment to evidence-based practice, continuous improvement, and maintaining high levels of accuracy, precision, and attention to detail.

Bachelor’s degree or higher in Medical Laboratory Science, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, or a related discipline; eligibility for or current professional registration is advantageous.

Experience in reproductive genetics, microbiome testing, or related diagnostic fields is highly beneficial, along with familiarity with clinical governance and patient-centered care principles.

Ability to work on-site in Herston, QLD, managing workload in a fast-paced setting while upholding echiDNA’s values of Gratitude, Equity, Nurture, Evidence, and Stewardship.
