Senior Network Security Engineer

Clerk Grade: 9/10 $133,348 - $146,945 plus super

Ongoing Full-Time opportunity

Location: McKell or Parramatta - hybrid working available with 2 days per week required in office

About the role

As the Senior Network Security Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in protecting and enhancing the network infrastructure that supports critical services across NSW.

In this role, you'll be responsible for designing, implementing and maintaining secure, resilient, and high-performing network environments. You'll work with leading technologies, contribute to strategic initiatives, and provide expert guidance to ensure our systems remain secure, available and future-ready.

This role participates in a 24x7 on-call roster for level 3 escalations supporting critical business services.

Key responsibilities

- Design, implement and maintain secure, resilient and high-performing network infrastructure, including firewalls, VPNs, load balancers, routing, switching and cloud networking technologies.
- Provide expert Level 3 operational support through advanced troubleshooting, incident resolution and proactive monitoring to ensure optimal network performance, availability and security.
- Strengthen and protect the organisation's cyber security posture by identifying vulnerabilities, enforcing security controls, supporting audits and mitigating operational risks.




- Support the delivery of strategic technology projects by evaluating emerging technologies and integrating new products and services into the operational environment.
- Drive continuous improvement through change governance, operational reporting, process optimisation and the development of technical standards, procedures and documentation.

About you

- You are a highly experienced Network Security professional with a passion for delivering secure, resilient and high-performing network environments. You bring:
- Extensive experience in senior network engineering and security roles within complex enterprise environments.
- A degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related discipline.
- Professional certifications such as Cisco CCNP/CCDP, Palo Alto Networks and/or F5 certifications (highly regarded).
- Extensive hands‑on experience managing complex enterprise network environments across routing and switching, wireless networking, security, load balancing, data centre and cloud technologies.
- Strong expertise in technologies including Palo Alto Firewalls, Cisco ISE, Cisco ACI, Cisco Nexus, Cisco WLC, F5 BIG‑IP, SD‑WAN, AWS and Azure.
- Experience with network protocols and services such as BGP, OSPF, DNS, DHCP, SSL/TLS certificates and VPN technologies.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues.
- Experience with scripting and automation technologies (desirable).
- Excellent communication, documentation and stakeholder engagement skills.
- The ability to work independently,



manage competing priorities and perform effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Available to participate as an escalation point in a 24x7 on‑call roster
